Hey everyone, just wanted to post my stats for students prepping for the exam and wanting to compare. I studied for 3-4 weeks and passed with a score of 252. I was pretty happy with it, but please keep in mind that I was just looking to pass and that a true "competitive" score for an IMG will depend on the program that you are applying to. I scored 65% on the Prep Lite exam and had only completed 1000 UWorld questions from the Step 2 CK bank when I wrote. Please use this to help scale how long you will study for. Best of luck to everyone writing!
Congratulations to you for passing MCCQE1.Wish to get your best choice for the residency program. Could you please share the study plan you did during 3-4 weeks? Thank you for your high-yielded video.
Hello Doc,I have question to be sure, So I just seen Uworld for the first time, and no option for MCCQE1, I understand that I should choose USMLE Step 2 CK to prepare for MCCQE1? is that correct
Hello! Thank you for your video, very clear and helpful. I hope you’re thriving through residency. As a future IMG whose planning to take the MCCQE1, I’d like to know if you have any tips for study ressources in french language, from your own experience or one of your colleagues? Thanks again and good luck for the rest!
Thank you so much for all the advice. I am currently studying to take the exams next year. I am currently living in Brazil but I'm moving to Toronto in July. This video certainly will help a tremendous number of people (y)
Hi Henrique :) Best of luck with studying for the exam 💪 I think that you'll enjoy Canada - especially if you like the big city atmosphere of Toronto. All the best!
Hi dr Thanks a lot for your useful and informative information. I have some questions. 1- How long is my test results of mccq1 valid? 2- Is it required to be PR when I want to take the test? 3- Is it ok if there is a 4-year gap between mccq1 and NAC test?
Hi Rezdar :) I'm glad the video was helpful. Yes this typically true as there are a magnitude of more spots for Canadian trained residents than IMGs - for a number of reasons but largely because the residency spaces in Canada are very limited as it is. Please check whichever specialty you are interested in by cross referencing with the CaRMS list for residency spaces from the 2021-2022 cycle.
This was a nice video! I am an IMG, Canadian though (born and raised!) and am thinking to write this after doing Step 1. Been hesitant though as I find Canada not IMG friendly but I see they are trying to change that but mostly for immigrants who are IMGs. So I hope things change. Congratulations too on passing your exams. So you used the Step 2CK for a Qbank? The mock tests are expensive, thank you for the tips, they will be helpful when I try later in the year.
As you seem to plan on applying to the US and Canada at the same time, take note of the new regulation taken up by carms found in this link, I only became aware of this recently myself so thought I would share just in case! gd luck www.carms.ca/news/2023-r-1-match-update-participation-in-carms-and-nrmp-matches/
Hello! thanks for your video, it was great! One doubt: are you doing steps 1 and 2 because you're seeking US medical residency, or it is necessary for CAN medical residency? (I'm international student)
Hello, I have 2 questions. 1. Can we change our field after working in a particular field? For example if we are getting family medicine from carms, can we change to surgery after few years of practice? Or is there any other way to change field? 2. Minimum marks required in mccqe1 and NAC OSCE to get surgery field? Kindly help me through this. Thank you in advance.
Dear Dr., Thank you so much for this video! It's very helpful... One quick question... I see that there are different options for the UWorld Step2 CK Qbank... Would you recommend the one that includes self-assessments? Or which one did you use?... I am an IMG and would like to get a good score! Thanks in advance for your time and help!! 😊🙏🏻
Hi Claudia :) I’m glad it was helpful. If you’re only planning on writing the Canadian exam, I’d recommend just the question bank and then buy the Canadian practice exam on their website. The step 2 CK practice exams are good at simulating the step exam and the questions that you’ll see, but the Canadian exam structure itself is very different. All the best!
I can't thank you enough! I mean it! Thanks for taking the time to create this video and for responding our questions!!!... The best for you in your career... I am sure you will help lots and lots of patients and will be very successful in all you do. Many blessings for your path, doc!@@nxtgenmd
Just came back to quickly share with you that I just got great news: I passed QE1!! And you and your video are part of this achievement!! Thanks once again for sharing your advice and the great tips!!! 😊🙏🏻
Quick question: those first 4 hours of the MCQ part of the exam. There are no breaks whatsoever??. I usually don't sit for 4 hours straight without a bathroom or water break! Guess for me that would be the most I need to practice for. Let me know please thank you for sharing this!
Glad it helps :) there are no scheduled breaks for 4 hours. You can get up and use the bathroom, but the timer still runs. I finished early as did some of my friends, but others have told me that they were down to the wire time wise. You’ll really be able to gauge once you sit down and take a crack at multiple questions in a row while practicing and then you can adjust accordingly. Good luck!
Hello, My exam is in November and I don't feel ready. I want to reschedule it to April but the session sn't open yet so I have to cancel. Considering my elegibility window period is until September 2025, if I cancel my exam now and pay the CA$56.50, will I be able to take the exam again in April without paying the exam fee again?
Thank you for the information I Intended to have the exam next april , as I couldn't have the opportunity in express entry to get a PR since now, is it a good idea to have the mccqe1 exam passed and then get a job offer to get to the Canada ?! I would be appreciated to know about it specifically from Canadian people since they have better insight about the Canadian society and labour market.
Hi! I know I’m pretty late, but I’m an international student and I’ve had a pretty long break from studying (4-6 months) so I feel as if I’ve totally forgotten all my concepts. Do you have any idea how long it would take for cases like me to study?
Hi doc. I have been preparing for plab but the situation in UK has been going down day by day so i just wanted to know whther the Canadian system will give residency to an IMG from India
Hey thank you very much for this detailed information! What about Canada Qbank? Is it worth trying both Uworld and that one? or with one is enough? Thank you! 🙏
As long as you meet the eligibility requirements that I talked about in this video (and are listed on their website), you can take the exam (after you apply for it) 🤙
I'm sticking with tutor mode 🤙 it slows me down a tonne but allows me to reconcile incorrect thought patterns and facts right away. My study patterns for step 2 have actually been pretty similar to step 1 so far except the material is much more interesting imo :)
If I am an international graduate doctor, the UWorld USMLE STEP1, STEP2 or STEP2 CK works for me? Or which will be the equivalent in the UWorld for the MCCQE?
I have ph.D in pediatric surgery with 2 year training after getting my Ph.D Should i start from mccqe1 exam in order to get a job in canada ? Thanks in advance
Hi,what is the process for a doctor who has done MS,mbbs in orthopaedic surgery from pakistan? Do They still have to give the same exam or some specialist exam?
Hello, Thank you for your informative video. I would ne glad if you help me to clarify my concerns about the Exam. How long does it take to get the exam result after the it? How many questions are there in CDM part that I have to script the answer? and As many as appropriate ones? Do you know anybody who prepared for the exam with "CanadaQBank" that something to say about the platform? Is it enough for the exam preparation? Good luck. Be well..
Dear Dr. Calcagno, I hope this email finds you well. My name is Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan, and I am an international medical graduate from India. I completed my undergraduate studies in Mauritius, which is a WDOMS-approved university. I am writing to you today because I am very interested in becoming a doctor in Canada, and I am especially interested in the CCFP-EM program. I have watched your videos on RU-vid, and I have found them to be extremely informative and helpful. I have a few questions about the CCFP-EM program, and I would be very grateful if you could take the time to answer them. I understand that you are very busy, I appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you for your help. Best regards, Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan
Hi! I saw your video about the MCCQE test part one, ando i wanted to ask if You Heard about the canadaqbank and if You recommend it for the test or if You still think uworld is better. Thank You!
Hi :) I know about Canada Q bank. Many of my friends used it and found it inferior to U world. Similarly, I didn’t like what I saw from it. You’re welcome to use whatever you’d like and I’m sure that there are some people who have liked it, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of most of the Canadian specific resources unfortunately (as I mention in the video). Good luck!
Hello sir I am a 2nd year MBBS student (Medical student) in India and I am willing to write MCCQE 1 exam when should I start preparing for it??? Please reply
I am srilankan a.d currently a medical university in russia , to apply for MCCQE Part1 exam , i must already finished my internship to apply or without internship as a fresh graduate i can apply for exam ?please give clarity on this . Thank you.
Hello. Please someone explain to me what is the difference between MCCEE and mccqe1? I am img and currently live in canada , I have PR. Wich exams should i take? I knew about mccqe1 and nac osce only. Currently I am studying for usmle step 1. I know its hard in canada but i want to give it a try otherwise i dont know what else to do 😅
Having written both, I can say confidently that I thought the Step 2 CK was much harder. However, in speaking with a few IMGs I’ve also heard that many people think that the MCCQE is harder. I’d say write step 2, take a MCCQE practice test and adjust from there. Good luck
Hi Mohammed, unfortunately I was unable to find a good alternative study resource for the CDM - however, there are 3 CDM question banks for purchase on the MCC website. In my case, after completing the Prep-Lite exam, I was confident enough with my CDM scoring that I could not justify spending more money on another MCC resource. (I had already bought 1 of their multiple choice question banks in addition to the Prep-Lite exam). I would recommend doing the Prep-Lite exam, then consider buying a CDM bank if needed. All the best 🤙
Ahah dude its all the sleep I've finally been able to catch up on since finishing med school (and before starting residency 😂) Gonna enjoy the gains while they last 💪
hi guys,ı am international physician . I live in toronto and trying to improve my english now,. How to I get PR , is anyone knows? is it easy for doctors? thanks.
Hi :) I explain in the video my recommendations. The MCC does sell resources specifically for the CDM if you feel like you need them after the practice exam best
For someone who just want to pass this exam what’s the best way to do it ? What it’s you recommendation , I want to do the exam within 2 months and Uworld it’s 4000 Qs 😅
LOL understandable but they best way to pass imo is to do as many Qs as possible (even if you don't go through all 4000) and then read my suggested chapters from Toronto notes and do the practice exam that I talked about
hello sir I'm finished my mbbs I'm doing internship right now my college is not listed in world directory of medical schools. what should i do please guide.? any leeds would be appreciate thanks.
