I love mine. Had it 6yrs now and has been flawless. Starts everytime in 1 to 2 pulls. I've modded the muffler and come other small things and it's cut a semi truck load of full length logs every year since I bought it.
Those tools sure did come in handy... Thanks Doug. I like the line removal and the coil gap tool. Mine is a non strato version too, excited to see where you go with the Jackal! But one minor correction to be made. The Jackal will have to settle for world's 2nd fastest 170 ;) Man can't wait to see all these running! Great stuff man
Dude, if mine is running like I think it's gonna...your saw will be lightning! I look forward to being beaten! Seriously though, I think next year will be a lot different. Other folks will be coming in hot with super fast and dialed in saws. It'll be nasty nasty!

Can u please show a video about how u modded the muffler and adjusted the carb. That Ms 170 runs better than my 4510 from Echo. Please any thing w help God bless u brother
U need to learn the trick to get flywheels off. A little pressure from underneath and a light but firm whop on the end of the shaft. Works most times, no heat needed. And for complainers, i learned this from a briggs and straton service manual. Obviously, be careful and youll be fine.
Good to know that there are still two versions of MS170 in existence. It looks that they did not switch MS-170 to 2-Mix engines everywhere. Here in Europe they sell MS170 Made in China and those are definitely stratocharged. Cylinder P/N is 1130 020 1212, carburetor e.g. C1Q-S237C (1130 120 0610). Made in America version (1130) must be still non-strato and the cylinder P/N is 1130 020 1207, carburetor e.g. C1Q-S57A (1130 120 0603). It would be interesting to see if the muffler has a CAT inside... PS I had a look at the EPA and CARB databases and it looks like USA MS170 has no CAT: AfterTreatment Device = NO, Non-AfterTreatmentDevice = Engine Design Modification. For comparison Dolkita 32 cc with CAT has significantly lower certification emission values than MS170 and AfterTreatment Device = Yes. So Stihl didn't have to use a 2-Mix engine or a catalytic converter in this case to be certified in the USA, California included.

A few older people in the village have such small stihl chainsaws. Some are satisfied and some are not. I think it is a good saw for short jobs and quality oil in the mixture. Whoever is a bully and saves on oil for the mixture should avoid these products.
Guess I've been lucky, have a bernzomatic mapp gas torch that's been attached to the same bottle for almost 2 years, just used it 2 days ago! Crap... just talked about it, now it's bound to leak😳

Ok so strato saw pumps fresh air in above the normal charge to evacuate the previous charge. !! There are a few diffrent ways they are accomplishing this task but everyone that I’ve ever seen has two or three holes at the intake somewhere wether it be in the cylinder or a block between the carb and cylinder or sometimes threw the carb itself. I was waiting for you to show the carb and weird plastic things you took off. Hope this explanation helps. Love the Timberwolf plastics ❤️🔥🦾🧬
This version (Made in America) is not stratocharged. It looks they still sell at least two different versions all over the world depending on the country. Here in Europe the current MS170 is made in China with a stratocharged cylinder and obviously a different carburetor. The muffler and the coil must be different too.

He do because the 170 Is a "junk" plastic saw Just like the homeowner cheap Poulans at the end of the day, but fanboys say is a professional saw🤣, nothing against cheap saws, they are fine but the brand means nothing nowadays, you have to know about the product youre buying
Never had my hands on a ms170/180 probably will sooner than later! I like to refer to the husqvarna 120/240 as slightly more refined, glorified wild things😅
This video is a wast of time. Your camera is on the wrong side of the saw, you seem to have a problem finding your tools, and not explaining what you are trying to do makes this video useless.
