I wanted to make handmade Christmas gifts for my family and figured tie dye socks would be something everyone would enjoy. I was originally going to the use the RIT dye I already had but after doing research, I felt more comfortable using a fiber reactive dye because it will stay vibrant through washes and I didn't want to risk having the dye stain other clothing items.

*** I highly recommend using a dropcloth or pan or something to protect your table while dyeing because the dye can definitely stain surfaces. This table was a garage sale find that we plan on refinishing so it wasn't a big deal if I messed it up. If you do get stains, try to use a magic eraser to get them out.

LOL, my first tie dye, I wanted to do multiple shirts and socks - it took me All day! I did at least 15 items, and trying to tie them took up alot of time, and then color, rinse, and wash..... It was fun, but I think I bit off more than I should have done at a time. I still got dye on my hands from the cheap plastic gloves. If you are a beginner like me, just do a few shirts to start off with, use a small kit, to get your feet wet! Thanks for sharing your video with us, I can relate! You did such a great job on this video! I know from experience it was A TON of work! It’s easy to overlook that there is so much detail that goes into doing socks. Especially when you’re mixing multiple colors and tying in different techniques. Plus it’s all so messy. You’re an MVP for filming it all and editing on top of that. Everything came out great! I’d love to see more in the future. Subscribed!

hi ! im trynna also do tie dye socks but the thing is that everytime i wash it out in the washing machine the color fades or like it washes completely out, i also used jacquard procion dye. I had used vinegar and salt as soda ash cause i heard it helps brighten the colors. I let the dye in the socks for 24 hours then washed out. Like for example I used hot pink but when i washed it in the washer it came out as baby pink. I use cold water, not hot.

hmm do you know the material of the socks your are using? they have to be mostly cotton for the dye to properly adhere to the fabric.

@@dayana9020 Ok so I think the reason it didn't work is because you used vinegar + salt instead of soda ash. If you don't have access to soda ash I've seen some instructions online on how to make it using baking soda.
