Completely refurbishing my GPZ900R Carburettors - Part 2

In this video I completely clean and paint the carburettors (or carburetors if you're American) from my barn find GPZ900R. I hope you enjoy watching this and If you haven't seen the rest of my GPZ900R videos then be sure to check them out!
Most carburettor videos don't show you as much of a detailed teardown as this one does, I'm going to replace all the screws, hoses and clips, clean out all the jets, replace the air/fuel mixture screw, remove and clean the floats and paint the bodies to make them look brand new.
I apologise that this is a 3 part video but my laptop that I use for editing just couldn't cope with the 200 individual clips from the complete stripping and rebuilding so I've had to create 3 shorter videos rather than 1 long one.
Hopefully I can get the engine started for the first time in 28 years soon.

Just a thought, but you're buying a load of tools and replacement bits and pieces. Would it not be worth buying an Ultrasonic cleaning bath? £40-£100 should get a decent one and it'll make a much better job. Might even save you a load of time, elbow grease and possibly having to tear everything apart again because things weren't as clean as you thought

I agree, it's a great idea, someone else suggested it as well so I will probably get one at some point, thanks

I agree….. buy the biggest ultrasonic cleaner you can’t afford - you clean carbs until they are clean …. Then you clean some more …. Then you say “that’s pretty good “ (which is code to clean some more) - then they should be good 😊 ….. a bank of four carbs operates on tight tolerances ….. just went through that on an ‘82 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. I’m sure he’ll get there - I am no mechanic ….. but gotta say that was painful to watch ….. yet somehow, now itching for more …..

Ash, when I first came across the first video in this series and your channel, I thought this guy was way out of his depth, also there was no way you would get the bike going, however I have been really impressed with the thoroughness and lengths you go to, in this restoration. I also have to say that leaving in all mishaps and unconventional approach to things has just made these videos fantastic; so looking forward to the next one.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback, comments like this keep me going... but you're right, I am way out of my depth 🤣 Its a good job there's no time limit on this, it would be nice to get it riding by the end of the summer though

Best get some silicon grease on those rubber boots and seals, especially after using acetone on them. I love my silicon spray, cleans and keeps plastics and rubber parts in great condition, awesome for cleaning tyre walls and making them look new again too 😎
@AshRowland
@AshRowland 6 месяцев назад
I wasn't sure when I was putting them back together, I didn't want to use anything that wasn't compatible with petrol, i.e. Silicone... but you're probably right
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 6 месяцев назад
@@AshRowland I think it is just silicon sealants that you can't use within the fuel system as petrol can break it down. As you know acetone and brake cleaner etc will dry rubber parts out, rubber parts will soak up the silicon grease and it keeps them soft and in good condition. This is why it is a good idea to use silicon grease on brake caliper seals too, after cleaning the brakes with soapy water, then brake cleaner, or just brake cleaner.

After using the asatone make shore you get some rubber rejuvenation spray or cream to put on all the rubber bits you put the asatone on cos After a little while they will dry out and cause problems 🙂👍

Ash have you not considered good old paraffin for washing down and general gunk / grease removal. At around £11 for 4 litres it’s extremely cheap and does an excellent job on oil grease grime etc . Also Scotchbrite pads are excellent for some gentle cleaning and dirt removal
