These guys have the parts you're looking for! www.jandjautowrecking.com/
The 2004 GMC Envoy XUV repairs continue! I bought a very broken XUV with all the common failures and we're working through rebuilding everything. So far we've fixed the midgate and the tailgate, now it's time to jump on the difficult part... the sliding convertible roof. Today we're going to remove the entire roof system and replace it with a working unit. Even then it doesn't work correctly and needed more troubleshooting. With only 27,200 ever made and probably half of those crushed by this point, parts are scarce.

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RU-vid videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I know why the roof won't relearn! I had the same thing happen to me with my XUV and it is an issue with the Autel scanner. If you use a GM Tech 2 it will relearn perfect. Any Autel scanner cannot do the relearn feature. No idea why. My roof was working perfectly and after running the relearn feature it "bricked" the roof close. I had to buy a used Tech 2 to be able to get it relearned. The rear glass relearn does work on the Autel however.

I was the engineer responsible for designing the installation station in Oklahoma City assembly plant for the XUV. The “adhesive” he’s referring to is Urethane similar to what holds windshields in place. It’s structural to the vehicle and MUST be properly applied. In the plant it was robotically applied to the roof rails. DO NOT INSTALL ONE OF THESE WITH OUT URETHANE AND EVEN THINK ABOUT USING ROOF RACKS. Those rivnuts that the fasteners are installed into have very little holding power..

I might have missed something over time, but whatever happened to that Geo Tracker thing? It was kinda fun seeing it being restored over time, as it is fun to see unloved cars get good treatment, including models not commonly loved on. Also, love the XUV, reminds me of a fancier version of the 90s Bronco my dad had, only the roof is electric, so you don't have to unbolt it and lift it off. There's a lot of strange models around that you rarely ever hear about, I've gotten to learn about some working in a parts shop, like the fact there's a Cadillac version of the Avalanche using Escalade, or the fact there's an EV Dodge Caravan from the 90s, Dodge Caravan EPIC, yes... they actually called it epic :P Which randomly reminded me that the Plymouth Prowler uses Dodge Caravan front rotors... Being Norwegian I don't know about all the weird models, so it was news to me when I ordered parts for a Chevy Colorado, that they got a 5cyl engine, or when I borrowed a car from my boss while welding on my own car, that the '89 F150 I borrowed didn't have a V8 or a V6, but a 4.9 I6, paired with a 4-speed manual, god I hated that gearbox, 1st was just for decoration, you started in 2nd, and once in 4th you were happy the truck had 2 fuel tanks, as keeping the speed limit you could almost hear the fuel tanks draining. Now that was a farm truck, it definitely wasn't meant for daily driving, especially if you had a passenger with a bag and you drove to the shop, single cab... manual meaning you can't put things on the floor there, so your shopping went on the bed... I don't get the obsession with trucks in America :P I have no idea how I ended up rambling on random topics... I'll just blame it on my ADD and apologize, despite the fact I still posted it.

Snow was not the issue with those roofs, they broke in FL too at a alarming rate. Friend had to replace his under warranty 3 times within 15 months. It was quickly traded as the rest of the vehicle was less than spectacular as well.

Love the concept of this truck. I would lube the heck out of that mechanism so you never have to go through that again.

You should see if you can turn the broken roof into a manual sliding roof.
