Good luck y'all when it starts going off...won't open...just gets stuck..wherever, for whatever reason, and no wind in manual option... This type of video really shows up the product, but the price to fix them, if you can, and the knowledge to see how they work is valuable..when they do work. Ours, it got stuck half out, half in...The company no longer had the parts, they had to be made. ...38 days in the shop. Thanks to Dan at Mohave RV in Bullhead City, they got it repaired and working...It was sold shortly after, for obvious reasons.... never to go Schwintek ever again...good instructive content.

Bravo Mr. Darren. Yes, an extremely, detailed and most informative, instructive coarse. For anyone,( such as myself ), have ever fallen pray, to the " short sided ", misaligned slide, you hit the ' nail on the head '. Many thanks, Darren, for teaching me about my Schwintek slide. I learned a lot. I was wondering about your opinion regarding putting weight on a Schwintek slide (sofa, bed) when it is retracted. After watching your videos I do not see why it would make much difference being in or out. Actually, it even appears to me that it is easier on the slide to put weight on it when retracted. Thanks!

Darren. Thank you so much for all your videos. I’ve learned so much. Still trying to figure out my situation. 2021 Lance 1985. Slide out while in the In Position angles downwards towards the floor slightly. When attempting to slide out, it lifts to be horizontal and then starts to go out. Left side seems fine. right side top goes out a little. Right side bottom seems frozen in place. No error code on controller. Perplexed.

Someone on a Grand Design forum recently said that NO lubrication is what Lippert now recommends for their Schwintek slide out. I downloaded the In-Wall Slide Out Owners Manual dated 10/9/20 and this is the entirety of the Maintenance section. System Maintenance It is recommended that when operating In-Wall® Slide-out system in harsh environments (road salt, ice buildup, etc.) that the gear racks and seals be kept clean and free of debris. They can be washed with mild soap and water. Note: No grease or lubrication is necessary, and in some situations may be detrimental to the long-term dependability of the system.
@MyRVWorks
@MyRVWorks 2 года назад
I know that's what Lippert says, and I've had this discussion with them at their schools, but from my experience, having worked on hundreds of these Schwintek systems, what I have found is that the rubber shoe sliding inside of the aluminum track will eventually bind and that causes the gears to mesh a little bit harder and that has caused broken spur teeth, binding, excessive wear, etc. While I love and respect Lippert I will always spray CRC Power Lube with PTFC (TEFLON) lubricant inside that track! I have a box full of the plastic shoes (many of them broken and cracked) that have so much excessive wear due to running in the track dry. So while Lippert engineers and manufactures amazing products, I'm the one that gets called out to fix things when they break. But in the end it's up to you to choose which advice you will follow.

hello the screw holding the motor in place ,does the motor have threads or just the aluminum bracket, or the screw end just rest in the motor window thanks
@happyseany
@happyseany 3 года назад
The screw just threads into a hole in the H-Column, doesn't technically screw into the motor.. rather- the end of the screw sits into a cavity on top of motor to prevent motor falling out with vibration, shock, etc.

UPDATE FROM LIPPERT!!! (just went through their training) they recommend NO LUBRICANT. Just keep it clean with dawn dish soap and warm water. Scrub it clean and spray it off.
@MyRVWorks
@MyRVWorks Год назад
Yes, I know that is what they are telling people. All I ask is that folks keep our phone number handy if they choose not to lubricate it and it seizes up. Just give us a call and travel to our area we will be more than happy replace the entire assembly. We have done hundreds of these repairs and overwhelmingly the bell curve of the repair is because the system is not lubricated properly. Besides what's the worst thing it's going to happen if you lubricate the system with the CRC Power Lube with Teflon? amzn.to/3ZrSSzW

@@MyRVWorks sorry, I'm not arguing one way or the other, but I thought I would at least let everyone know what the manufacturer recommends. As a tech, my opinion is that regardless of what is recommended or who recommends the care needed, it usually comes down to the customers failing to do anything at all when it comes to maintenance.

I have a question. My slide out is popping on the upper rear corner when I extend it which makes the bottom not open all the way and seal correctly. The specs say 2.5 (+/- 1/8th) inches from trac to outside of flange. I have 2and3/4 both side on the top side of the h-beam? Can I just unscrew and re adjust them to 2.5 then drill new screw holes?

This is a great video. How do you explain how my lower part of the slide out is out 1.5 inches all of a sudden. I understand the "S" on the gears matching on top and bottom but I never took the system apart. The bottom all of a sudden just stopped pulling all the way in. Is the lower gear stripped or jumped out of position? How do I quickly fix to avoid complete teardown.
@MyRVWorks
@MyRVWorks 3 года назад
If your room was coming in and out totally square and now it's developed this gap at the bottom, the only way to recover from that is to remove the drive shaft and slide that bearing block into position to reset everything. It's a big job but because the bearing blocks have such tight tolerances to the rail there's no easy fix for that. On that upper or lower bearing block you may look for a broken part. The issue is revealed on the lower but the broke apart maybe at the upper.

@MyRVWorks
@MyRVWorks 7 месяцев назад
We've seen that happen when the spur gear jumps the teeth. The reason for that is the gear block is not Stout in the H column. There's a plastic shoe that glides. Oftentimes we see the plastic shoe wearing out or failing allowing the bearing block to wiggle a little bit. That's all a slack this needs for the teeth to jump.

Thanks for taking the time. I wish you were closer as I near Calgary Alberta. I watched both of your videos related to this prior to posting my question so at least now I am familiar with the terminology and understand what you’re saying I haven’t had chance to check the motor to see if it is ok but I think it is going to a tough job to get this sorted out as I suspect I will have to remove the H column completely so I will need to build a support to hold up the slide. On my Lippert system, the LR Slide on my fifth wheel makes a popping noise and shows some wear on the track. Sounds like the gear is not in full contact with the track. Also, one side of the slide is about 12" from the entry door, so the wall is very small, and moves and vibrates when the slide goes in and out. If the plastic part you spoke of is broken, how do I get access to it to replace ? You supply a valuable service to us all, a huge THANK YOU !

These were very informative and helpful videos on the Schwintech slide system. It also really helped seeing the inside of the slide components and now I have a much better understanding of what they do and how they work together. You really know your stuff and, at the same time, you were able to keep the information at a level most anyone could understand. You already figured out that you need at least a 6 foot table (LifeTime tables are great for your line of work) to make it easier to lay things on for the videos. Also, between you and the videographer need to get a little better at keeping what your showing in the shot and not off to the side out of the frame. A wireless Lavalier Microphone would also make your jobs easier by eliminating the cable that probably gets in the way more than you'd like. Looking forward to more videos and stay safe out there.

My last travel trailer Schwintek system committed suicide. I pushed the button for it to go out and it kept going and going. I finally stopped after it broke through the outside wall and ran out of track. This was my third system on this trailer. It went back to Thor Industries and that is where it sat for over a year waiting to be fixed. While in their hands, the propane tank, tank cover and battery was stolen. You could not pay me a million dollars to purchase another travel trailer with a Schwintek system. As the head technical engineer at Thor Industries said, "This is not the trailer's fault. It is due to the design of the Schwintek System."

This video is awesome. I had an issue where the adjustable floor roller came loose from the floor, because it was only attached with 4 of the self-tapping trim screws they use. It damaged the subfloor and bent the bracket, so I straightened the bracket and I put a 1/4" metal plate between the roller assembly and the floor that was larger, to distribute the load and attached it with 8 real screws. The problem is, it occasionally hangs on that side and I saw that I the plastic piece was separated and sliding in the track. I have been looking for a video that showed how the assembly comes out, because I figured the whole assembly would have to be replaced. The fact that the plastic parts are replaceable is a huge bonus. Do you have the part number of the kit you referenced, or do I have to call LCI and give number off of the tag? Also, Mine has the double tracks on the top. I assume that they are built the same but basically with one upper design, and two of the lower ones. Is that correct?

You would THINK the dumb-ass engineers at Lippert would come up with a POSITIVE LOCKING method (other than a single screw) to hold the motor in place! That's absolutely the stupidest after-thought setup I have seen in quite a while. There should be a block attached to the motor to screw at LEAST two screws into. You could probably clamp a piece of flat 1/8" aluminum to the motor with two stainless band clamps. Then drill a hole (or two) for the screws to thread into.

@2hotscottpro mine had 2 issues. The guide rollers under the dinette were not engaged. I think this was my key issue. Also, the box was not aligned properly to the opening. I shimmed the main rollers on one side to square the box to the opening. Both problems cause binding in the drive. The inverted design is more susceptible to binding. I installed a new drive system, Lippert sent the original design drive...

I had a Schwintek slide failure on a full wall (Itasca Solei). It failed in the out position and we needed to get it back in to continue our trip. We thought we had pulled the screw and popped the motors up, but it still took 10 strong men to push the wall in. The shaft on one side was destroyed in the process. Does that mean that we failed to pop the motor up enough to disengage it? Excellent video!

The schwintek slide out system is a horrible design. As far a bad designs of stuff it ranks right up there with GMs side post battery idea. The original worked great for 50 years until some genius thinks he can be better.

The engineers behind this system were clearly 100 percent bottom of there class , probably shouldn't of passed , build shit the doesn't last , that is a pain in our ass.

Hi, what would cause the motor, shaft and bottom piece actually come out of the wall from the outside . Standing outside the RV you can see the motor shaft and bottom piece .

Amazing video! When you say lubricate the track - do you mean the rectangular track where the plastic shoe moves? Or do you mean the snake-like curving grooves? Thank you for taking the time!!!!

What if the top of the slide is seated and the bottom is about two inches out? Am I removing the H column and re-aligning or is there an easier way?

Hi I just started watching your videos, my travel trailer has the schwintek what I'd like to see is the bottom roller or rollers how to service that, on the bottom of mine I see white in the middle which tells me the white wheel might start to be coming apart and that needs to be serviced. Thank you
