Class song. Nice to see an in depth analysis of it at the end too, compared to other RU-vidrs who literally just listen to it and say "that was great" and it ends haha. Anyway we love the song and wanted to let you know we thought your reaction was great. Keep it up dude :)

Going to see them upcoming Friday with a very special concert, celebrating 20 years of BtToS with a full set of the album and a brand new mastered version of it. It's going to be magical.

Ahhhhh...! Cool! These guys are from my hometown Leipzig in Germany. Nice to see them here!!! The bandleader/composer/singer/guitarist/bassist is a good friend of mine for a long time. He is a producer as well with his own studio and already produced a lot of other (metal) bands too. And normaly he makes a very good mix job (i guess). i think youtube takes away a lot of the quality... You made a great job! Great analysis like always...!!! Thanx!!!

Nice! This band has a really fun discography. The album after this (Gloria) got way more proggy and non-traditional, with way more, better, clean singing, then they broke up for 13 years and then released a new album last year. I haven't listened to that one much, so I can't comment on it too much, but from what I've heard, it sounded like a continuation of the progression from Gloria. Great band. The song "The Hole We Are In" from Gloria is pretty great.

Nah, their newest album “The Liberation” is more similar to Back to Times of Splendor, Gloria was extremely experimental.

Whoa! Ok, so I've heard *of* them. Probably because of what they released last year (checked Spotify and I have a song by them among my liked ones: The Liberation). But how can I have missed something so good? Surely you'd think some algorithm would have suggested this to me by now... or it might just be information overload on my end. So much music out there and it just keeps coming new stuff. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Thoughts!

this album is way too good, their newest one was not disappointing exactly but only had a few songs on this level. Wintertide is one of the best songs of 2019 though. edit: First time i heard this band i definitely thought about SOAD

Can't believe I missed out on this one when fresch. Sorry Thoughts! Great band that have been going a bit under my radar (but just as for Cynips, I had them liked since before but can't remember why). They were brought to my attention (again) now through the last livestream and checking them out a bit further, I must say that I find some of their other - even more eclectic - stuff better still.

YES!! I really wanted and i think i've suggested in other videos songs from Disillusion for you to react. My suggestion would be more of their latest album. I own both that one and this one "Back to Times of Splendor". This is a band you should react more songs from them. They are highly technical and quite fit for your analysis. Next time, check out a newer song from them. From their latest album "The Liberation" my suggestion would be for the 12m36s long "Wintertide" that you will dig allot more. Alternative would be "The Great Unknown" with 5m49s. Anyway, happy you picked Disillusion, finally!!!

Regarding your comment about the mix/master... sadly it is that bad from the CD (not uploader’s/RU-vid’s fault), and not sure if there was ever a vinyl with a better mix. Also the master is too loud. I wish they would go back and remaster this record, it’s so beautiful and that’s why I tolerate the mix. The rest of this album has a similar feeling of death with calm melodic parts, would recommend a full continuos listen (all songs are interconnected; the ending of one is the beginning of the next one). Also I would recommend to check their latest “The Liberation”, it was released in 2018 and the mix/master is better. It goes through many of the same ideas as Back to Times of Splendor. Their second album “Gloria” is also good, but very very different from this one, a whole different sound to it. Gloria is extremely experimental.

Didn't really know what to make of this one on a first listen. Like you said, the production sounds weird, and there's something about the writing that's putting me off. Probably the constant switch ups from clean to heavy sections wrapped in a 15 minute package.

Not sure how I missed hearing about these guys given this would've come out around the time I was heavily into melodeath. This is definitely something I would've loved back then. I've burned out a bit on melodeath since then, but this is still pretty awesome. There's just enough symphonic and proggy variety to spice up the more typical aspects of the genre. Definitely interested in checking out more from them. I think most of your difficulty was still not being very acclimated to the genre. I will agree that the mix isn't great, and sadly one typical negative of most death metal is pretty poor recording/mixing quality, especially with older and obscure bands that didn't have much (if any) budget.
@CriticalReactions
@CriticalReactions 3 года назад
This is MeloDeath? Or at least sort of MeloDeath? I was looking forward to that genre but this doesn't make me think it's for me. Obviously there are many other bands in the genre doing their own thing and I'm not judging an entire genre on one song -- but it certainly wasn't the first reaction to the genre I was hoping for .
@jonathanhenderson9422
@jonathanhenderson9422 3 года назад
@@CriticalReactions It's pretty close, certainly inspired by it, but there's more proggy and symphonic elements than classic melodeath, and perhaps the riffs/vocals weren't quite as melodic/catchy either. I'm sure some metalheads would say that since they aren't from Sweden (where all the OG melodeath bands were from) it's not real melodeath anyway.
