Bryan reacts to and talks about his thoughts on [Havukruunu] Unien Havulinnaan ORIGINAL VIDEO: • Unien Havulinnaan . Patreon: www.patreon.com/criticalreactions Twitter: critreactions
You should really react to the now-defunct band Agalloch from Portland, OR. Legendary in the metal scene for their blend of this sort of black metal with folk, prog, and post-rock. In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion is the song to start with. Gives a good taste of most of their influences/style and the lyrics are super poetic and deep.
Please react to a one-man band called "Midnight Odyssey" with the song "Asleep is the fire". Atmospheric black metal from Australia. It's a really long song but it has a lot of contrasts and elements that i'm sure you will appreciate Thank you!
Based off of this, I have a doozy of a challenge for you, Moonsorrow's "Tuleen Ajettu Maa". It's a doozy because, well, it's 26 minutes long. But it's laid down as a mini soundtrack in and of itself and an interesting example on how to build variations while generally keeping tempos.
Alternatively if a 26 minute song is too much of a tall order, then Haaska is a bit more manageable at ... well, 14 minutes. But length is kind of essential to their aesthetic.
Hello! Just wanted to point out that you have reacted to at least four pieces of finnish music already! Them being: Wheel Wintersun Nightwish Jani Koski 🤗 Please check out more finnish metal: Insomnium: Karelia Vorna: Sateet (pretty pleeease !!!!!!!) Kaunis Kuolematon: Yön tunteina (!!!!) Wintersun: Time Live reherseals at Sonic Pump Studios Remastered (!!!!) Wintersun: Eternal Darkness
it does sound like a cheap recording... but is one of my favorite albums - start to end, like traveling 500 years back into the woods and sea. that was the closing track btw. I second other people here - Agalloch, and if you're into melodic and compositions: Be'lakor
Havukruunu = crown of twigs, an alias for elk/moose. There are a number of aliases for animals, bears in particular in the finnish language, even the current word for a bear: 'karhu' comes from a description of it's fur: 'karhea' rough
"playing everything over and over with nothing really going on" is typical black metal style, but not everyone likes it.. imagining how to make a traditional metal song out of it if you like that genre, is a natural reaction, can't blame you
Not really. Many of the original black metal albums progressed faster in their tracks (Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor, Gorgoroth...). So it's not typical to black metal, it's typical to any style of modern metal where most compositions are just weak.
I'd recommend going through their discography since its not too long, according to Spotify atleast, they have three whole albums that are about 45 minutes each. But if you want a single album to start with in my opinion 'Kelle Surut Soi' is a great listen, even though its a bit more rough on the edges. If you prefer the cleaner sound then you may want to start with 'Havulinnaan'. Please enjoy!
This is my favorite album of theirs, Rautalintu being my favorite track of it.. but the whole thing really. You can also listen to some extra content in bandcamp
I know this is 8 months later, but if you like slow burner black metal then I'd check out the Polish band, Mgla. Particularly their records Exercises in Futility and Age of Excuse. For more of a folkish sound, Macabre Omen from Greece is also fantastic. They don't have much material but it has a "warm" atmosphere as opposed to the usual "cold" sound of traditional black metal.
I'd recommend reacting to 'Kunnes Varjot Saa' by them as well. It's off of their newest album. Better production and the songwriting is more engaging. The title track off of the album is also really great.
I agree with many things here. I personally like the sound of this band and they have nice Moonsorrow-esque ideas but their compositions are weak (why have solos here?) and it's way too repetitive.
Heh, the reason why I love Havukruunu a lot is because they are so much like Moonsorrow but they get straight to the point where as Moonsorrow tend to stretch out into long epics. Which is nice but sometimes I like to have the "same songs" in a shorter more digestiable format. :D That said, this is not their best song I think.
@@whitneysmiltank Eh, pop is too far. I consider it more like taking things back to basics, just a folkish black metal song, no fluff and nothing more. *edit* Actually now that I think about it, even for Moonsorrow the album that I love the most is Kivenkantaja and that is an album what Havukruunu is most similar to.
