Phenomenal group. The heaviests parts (death sytle) and the most progressive (neoclassical too) reminds me of my 20's, when i liked this intrincate songs. One day Sigur Ros and the next Pesefone. I love it.
One of the greatest metal groups on the planet as far as composition goes in my opinion. These Andorran boiz don't have a single bad track on any of their albums
Imho one of Persefone's songs best showcasing their skill in composition might be the often overlooked “Stillness is Timeless“ from their most recent album “Aathma“. While it may not their flashiest or most technical, I feel it has a great sense of non-conventional structure, alternating emotion, transition and progression throughout the whole piece. Though thinking about it, the 4-part title giving opus from the same album might be even more impressive in that regard (if you consider it as a single unit).
Persefone are a spectacular band. I just recently went through their discography and pretty much every album is in that 8-9 range, with Core being their masterpiece IMO. I'd describe them as a more technical version of 90s melodic death metal bands like Dark Tranquility ca. The Gallery or In Flames ca. The Jester's Race. They've basically perfected the sound and formula those bands pioneered but then abandoned in the 00s. Definitely one of THE premiere metal bands out there right now, and criminally underrated. Only complaint is I wish they'd release albums more often: 5 in 16 years isn't enough! I missed my chance to recommend The Aristocrats for Unknown Gems week. If I had to vote for the most ridiculously talented band in terms of musicianship out there right now, they'd get my vote. They're also fun as hell, especially live.
@@jukedem I think I only found out about the remastered version a while after listening to their discography, so I'd have to do a back-to-back listening to compare.
hello again brian, i'm here to let you know that more Ne Obliviscaris, Corelia, or The Contortionist would be great. Even though you already did Leprous again recently, because I am biased, also would recommend Leprous anyway :^) regardless, I love you and you're great.
Another group I haven’t gotten into but know I should. Really enjoyed this song overall and it’s grandiosity. Really liked the vocals- savage and intense screaming (really freaking loved them) and beautiful singing in the chorus. Loved the groovy rhythms snuck in there along with the atmospheric feelings sprinkled in the song. The electronic bit caught me off guard but loved it. They did a great job taking you to places that were jarring but sat just long enough to let you adjust.
Thanks for reminding me of this brilliant piece! Bryan I suggest you listening to the entirety of this great conceptual album, it was my AOTY for 2013 and non-stopped jamming the album for 2 years.
Melechesh - Multiple truths next pls ! Its a rare hidden gem that sets a high standard for the very band that created it. It's a very tasty and fascinating mix between beautifull melodic lines and mystic a thmosphere and sick heavy riffage. The thematic and lyrics are at least as fascinating and they quite well balance the message with the instrumentation. There are definitely black and death metal influences but that's doesn't really tells you a lot about their sound. Can't wait to see you reaction !
Best song by Persefone IMO. Excellent band that snatched my interest immediately. Love prog metal. Periphery and Erra are some great bands you should check out.
I am so glad you finally got around to doing this, it was one of the first bands i requested on your channel when you just started doing reactions. Thought they would be up your alley!
Spiritual migration, one of the best albums ever made. Aathma (their album after) is up there too. Just a band of genius musicians. Gotta love their own style of lyrics paired with this kind of music aswell.
Spiritual migration is a conceptual album that talks about the evolution of the soul, for me the best album of this band. Check out the song that bears the same name as the album. Greetings and thanks for reacting to this great band so underrated
How about Snarky Puppy? Songs from the band to pick from: "Lingus" - Best Keyboard Solo I've ever heard "Outlier" - Best Sax solo i've ever heard "Jefe" - Shit just grooves and is funky as all hell "Quartermaster" - New Orleans style song Most of their stuff is gold
Cool to see you checking out Persefone again. I first heard of them around when they were releasing Core, but I think Spiritual Migration's ended up being my favorite material they've released. Lovely intricate melodies.
Now this is a group I haven't jammed in a long minute holy crap lol If I may ask when could we possibly see more Coheed and Cambria deep dives? Love the vids man 🤘😌🤘
I love Persefone! They're one of my favourite bands behind BTBAM and Haken. Looking forward to their next release. Stillness Is Timeless would be my vote if you did another one, but you already have a pretty good idea of what they're all about.
Glad to see I’m not alone in just discovering this band now. WTF. Pure bliss from start to finish. Sits for me in similar rarified air as the last Wilderun album. On another note, it doesn’t look like you’ve taken a look at Oceans of Slumber yet (apologies if you have), They swap out a bit of technicality for melody compared to bands like this. A new album from them is around the corner and from the singles it sounds very promising. A great place to start with them IMO is the song This Road Live Session.
Man - I had a lot of fun with this one! I was getting some Protest the Hero vibes throughout - only part of their sound but one I appreciate, which made it easier for me to get into it.
Well then.... they just gained a new fan. Looks like they've been around a while too (This is from a 2013 album). How did this fly under my Radar? I am absolutely verklempt. I thought I had a handle on most of the technical metal bands out there (Obscura, Necrophagist etc.) but I guess not! What superb writing and musicianship!
Just stumbled on your channel. Persefone, Panopticon, Katatonia? Some quality music you’ve been checking out! And quite refreshing how it’s off the beaten path.
These guys are one of my favourite recent discoveries. Living Waves is what got me started, it's so great. Inner Fullness is one of my favourites. You probably wouldn't be surprised they are good friends with Ne Obliviscaris, the violinist/clean singer appears on their song "In Lak'ech"
Not sure where people usually go to request songs. You should definitely check out Their Dogs Were Astronauts. Their music could definitely fit into unknown gems!
Gottdamn. How did this band slip past me? This is right up my alley. Suggestions for next week's themes: Burst - (We Watched) the Silver Rain Giant Squid - Summit Frantic Bleep - ...But a Memory Nice reaction and thanks for digging deeper than some of those other reaction channels. Keep up the good work!
Definitely pick up their album Core as soon as possible. One of the best metal albums of this century, and their other albums aren't that far behind. Truly phenomenal band.
In the album this song represents the sense of anxiety and inner conflict and confusion in the road from recognizing self destructive patterns and inner turmoil to inner peace. It's not thier best song but it fits the purpose of its position in the album which is about a spiritual migration
Shit. All I can say is I need to listen to this band more! This song is all over the place, but in a good way! Love the neo-classical sounds on the guitar solos. Good tune!
DEVIL DOLL - "The Girl Who Was.....Death" Devil Doll is an Italian-Slovenian experimental rock band formed in March 1987 by Mr. Doctor. The band has gained a cult following, taking influences from gothic rock, classical and slavonic folk music, fronted by the sprechgesang of Mr. Doctor. The band was named in homage to the 1936 Tod Browning movie of the same name. Devil Doll albums were released in limited quantities on Hurdy Gurdy records, a label started by Devil Doll fans and based in Italy. Since 1996's album Dies Irae no new recordings have been released by Devil Doll. Mr. Doctor has stated he has lost his interest in composing and recording new music, so releases featuring new material seem highly unlikely. There are however several unreleased Devil Doll/Mr. Doctor albums in the archives. Of every Devil Doll album a subedition of ten copies was created featuring the album in a velvet box with hand made inserts. These subeditions were made exclusively available to band members.
Analogue to the level of a recording signal, this song has the musical information level constantly in the red. There is no break, they are constantly offloading information encoded in music.
