Everything Keiichi Okabe touches is beautiful. I'd highly recommend Kuroi Uta from the Drakengard 3 OST or Grandma from the Nier Replicant OST. So many goosebumps.
This is my favorite track off of the soundtrack, which is saying a lot since I consider 95% of the OST brilliant. Great job reacting to this! Keep em coming.
Big fan of Keiichi Okabe. The Nier: Automata soundtrack is so good (: Btw: The soundtrack in the game is dynamic. Which mean, in fight for example it increases in intesity.
In addition, if you enter a hacking mini-game, an 8bit version of the track plays. The two versions are always playing but one of them is muted, so they are always in sync and the transition is seemless
Interesting to hear your thoughts- always nice to hear a blast of this song first thing in the morning!😄 Apparently "Memories Of Dust" is one of the least appreciated tracks on the NieR:Automata soundtrack, which came as a surprise to me since I (like you, it seems!) was immediately spellbound by it. I agree about the use of hard panning: cleverly mixed to evoke the sense of a vast desert expanse, with no instrument stepping on another's toes. As someone pointed out earlier in the comments, the soundtrack is implemented "dynamically" in the game; different mixes of the same track crossfade in and out depending on where the player is, whether certain plot events have been triggered, and so on... it's superbly done from an engineering standpoint. Incidentally, the shamisen-sounding instrument you hear is a hammered dulcimer- I've always loved the sound of them. Also, I would point out that the credits for this track go to Keiichi Okabe's collaborator Kuniyuki Takahashi (music); vocalist J'Nique Nicole came up with the "words" we hear. (Okabi is, however, the composer for most of the tracks in the NieR games, and serves as musical director.) Best wishes from the UK! :) ✌️
I never liked the "heavy" vocals in this (particular) soundtrack/piece, it got annoying to me during the game. But I absolutely love the instrumentation and how it conveys the desert feeling. I think with 50% either less or lighter vocals this could be one of my favourite tracks.
This was definitely a nice track. I've been interested in playing Nier: Automata for a long time but just haven't gotten around to it yet. If the rest of the OST is this good it might inspire me to check it out sooner!
It gets better even, at times, it's a very rich and varied OST. Game is pretty wild also. OST of the original Nier might be even better by the smallest of margins, though.
First time stepping on sand, seeing giant sand dunes and hearing this music got me instantly mesmerised... Such a shame you can experience this feeling only once
