Greetings from Ireland, We have a compost bin collection service. I have a three bay compost system and make my own compost. I mulch the flowerbeds every February and put a handful of organic fish blood and bone meal around each plant. The plants don't get any more fertiliser until the following year.

Sounds like exactly what my mother did for years. She always had a beautiful garden.

Agreed! In our province in Canada, we have the very same program and we also have our own compost pile, which we use regularly. We really couldn't garden successfully without it!

We have the same thing in our community - curb side green waste pick up. If you don't have it and you want it, get your neighbors to join you in asking for it (repeatedly if needed). Ask your trash company, your city council and your state officials. If enough people ask enough times, you can get this service. It makes life so easy and it turns trash into treasure!

Once you experience this type of composting, you will become and evangelist for it!

@@stonecottageadventures304 It's true! And people who don't have it will think you are a little crazy until they experience it themselves 😂

That’s the way England does….. recycle, trash, and organics too I had never seen that before until I went there. Great idea!

Here in Indianapolis there is nothing. The yard waste must do in the garbage bin. When living outside Detroit we had yard water pick up within our routine garbage pick up plan though no available mulch or compost available in return. It would be heaven to have what you have! I love gardening and mulch and compost is extremely expensive here.

Our town's set up is a bit different - we're ultra urban so there isn't as much use for compost for most residents. However, we are able to drop off organics at a number of convenient spots where the city has bins that get picked up and exchanged every week. We love it! I actually keep any accumulated compost in the freezer until I'm ready to drop it off. I have also been able to reduce my garbage to a medium bag every 3-4 weeks since there isn't anything to get smelly, and we have recycling pick up as well. While I'd love to have a place to use compost, I'm glad my household landfill waste is so dramatically reduced and someone else gets some good compost out of it.
