Good video! Although matrices can be done much better than shown in the video. Manually setting the size of the braces isn't great. If you use the left and right commands followed by the braces, e.g. "\left( xxx ight)" or "\left\{ xxx ight\}", the braces automatically adjust to the correct size based on the thing inside. And even simpler; instead of {array} simply use either {pmatrix} or {bmatrix} for matrices with parentheses and square brackets.
@BryanJenks

$$ \left\{\begin{matrix} 5,6,7 \\ 7,4,5 \\ 6,4,2 \end{matrix} ight\} $$ NICE. Havent had to do much with matrices in mathjax, so that is very helpful, thanks!

Because otherwise I don't know how to increase the size of the text with the other latex plug-ins. Would anyone know how to do this, please?

increasing the size is done through CSS and is still in my template vault so you can grab it from there. mathjax isnt a plugin its part of the base app functionality

Here, I have summarized what I have understood from this video. This is my very first introduction to latex or mathjax so there might be mistakes in it. I have skipped the colour part. Thank you very much Bryan for such a great lecture!! Comments will be highly appreciated. Happy Learning... :-) 1. $A=5$ 2. This is an inline equation ''$\sigma$'' for you. The \ is used to enter the command which is sigma. 3. Here you can see $sigma$ is considered as plain text without the \ sign. 4. This is a centred equation $$A=\sqrt2$$ for you. Here \ is there before A because A is not a command but 'sqrt' is!! 5. This is how you write $\pi$. 6. \$\pi$ $\pi\$ So if you put \ before $ or any command then it will escape the $ sign as a result the $ won't do anything. It will automatically make the sign Grey. It says to latex that oh nono it's plain text only. 7. $\textbf{Text}$ this command will make text bold. 8. Some COMMANDS will take INPUT by '\' Whereas, some commands will take INPUT through {}. Eg. $\textbf{BOLD}$ 9. Certain other equations can take OPTIONAL INPUT. Eg: $\sqrt4$ > $\sqrt[n]4$. Here [ ] is taking optional input. 10. $\sqrt444$ here sqrt is only on the first 4. To cover the whole number have to use { } after the sqrt command $\sqrt{444}$ $\, \, \,$This will tell sqrt that the whole thing is together/one unit. 11. To get extensive knowledge about the $\textbf{SYNTAX}$ will have to go to the latex or mathjax sites. 12. Let's see some commonly used syntax: 13. $x^2$; "^" is used to take things on SUPERSCRIPT. 14. $x_2$; "__" is used to take things to SUBSCRIPT. 15. $\frac{1}{\sqrt2\pi nd^2}$; This is how FRACTION can be inserted. Here after "pi" there is a space, whitout which it will look like $\frac{1}{\sqrt2\pind^2}$; as latex is not recognising "pind" as a symbol/command. (Notice that there is no space in the result, whereas using a space command like '\\,' will actually make space between the symbols. Eg: $\pi\,x$ vs. $\pi x$) 16. Going really crazy with fractions: $$\frac{\pi ho h\sqrt{x}y^2d_2}{\frac{\sqrt{g^2+\frac{v^4}{R}}}{\frac{(2n-1)v}{\sqrt{\gamma RT}}}}$$ 17. Diffrent sections: $$\pi ho h\sqrt{x}y^2d_2$$ 18. $$\frac{\sqrt{g^2+\frac{v^4}{R}}}{\frac{(2n-1)v}{\sqrt{\gamma RT}}}$$ 19. $$\sqrt{g^2+\frac{v^4}{R}}$$ 20. $$\frac{(2n-1)v}{\sqrt{\gamma RT}}$$ 21. $$(2n-1)v$$ 22. $$\gamma RT$$ 23. Let's see some cases: $X^y_z$ & $X_z^y$ same result. So both subscript and superscript is applied to X; Again $\sqrt4^x_y$, $\frac{2^a_c}{3^b_d}^x_y$ 24. Moreover, $X^y^z$ and $X_y_z$ doesn't work; so to provide superscript of a superscript or subscript of a subscript we need to use ''{ }''; Eg. ${X^y}^y$,${X_y}_y$; Here { } is considered as same unit by "^" and "_" ; More examples: ${X^y_z}^y_z$; ${X^y_z}_z^y$. So anything inside { } is cosidred as same unit by the functions when seen from Both LEFT to RIGHT and RIGHT to LEFT!! 25. $\sqrt{44})^5)^7]_9$; Just some properties of ( ) & []. 26. $$\sum_{j=0}^nJ^2$$; in this {j=0} acts as subscript and n acts as superscript(refer to no. 23). So \sum_{j=0}^n acts as one unit then after that j^2 is just the next thing linearly to be printed, it doesn't have anything to do with the previous part. It shows that it is like writing a sentence of mathematics that has many words(chunks of functionality). 27. $\mathcal{Fraction\,\,\,\frac{2}{3}}$ vs $Fraction\,\,\,\frac{2}{3}$ ; //caligraphic letters rendering// 28. $\sigma\,\,\Sigma\,\,\delta\,\,\Delta\,\,\ldots\,\,\vdots$ $2,3,\,\ldots$ Some commonly used greek latters. 29. Let's see fencing: 1. $(x)$ 2. $[x]$ 3. $\{x\}$. (refer No. 6) 4. $$ 5. $\langle x angle$ 6. $|x|$ 7. $\|x\|$ 8. $||x||$ 30. $$ \begin{array}{rcl} 4&8&9\\ 4&2&8\\ 6&5&0\\ \end{array} $$ ''\begin'' starts an Environment and ''\ends'' an Environment. Inside the environment we have put an Array(\begin{array},\end{array}). Then {rcl} is there for allignment(right,centered,left). "&" renders a gap between the items. Double \\ breaks the line. It only works inside an begin and end environment. Let's do fencing: $$ (\begin{array}{rcl} 4&8&9\\ 4&2&8\\ 6&5&0\\ \end{array}) $$ Ughh not perfect! Using \Bigg and \bigg $$ \Bigg(\,\begin{array}{rcl} 4&8&9\\ 4&2&8\\ 6&5&0\\ \end{array}\,\bigg) $$ \Bigg is bigger and \bigg is smaller. 31. Now spacing: $x\!y$ $x\,y$ $x\:y$ $x\;y$ $x\quad y$ $x\qquad y$ 32. $$X_k=\frac{1}{N}\sum_{n=0}^{N-1}x_ne^{i2\pi k\frac{n}{N}}$$

May you tell me how you were able to render the LaTex code? I could not find how to open the complied view to the right side of your screen.

Amazing Tutorial!!! Thank you! Is there a way to write LaTeX without Having Obsidian italicizing the latex code?
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 2 года назад
through CSS on the mathjax item it should be possible to remove the italic effect

Is there a way to enable equation numbering? Other apps like Typora support this.
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 2 года назад
not sure, sometimes you dont get a lot of features when you use non-native latex because this is using the mathjax javascript library not raw latex so im not sure off the top of my head

how can math formulas be automatically be enumerated in Obsidian with LaTex code?

example?

yea for Matrixes you could use \begin{bmatrix} 1 & 2 & 3\\ a & b & c \end{bmatrix} so that the {} wont get to small if you use more than 3 lines

someone knows, how can LaTex stored in a mySQL database be represented/rendered into the webbrowser as mathematical formulas?
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 2 года назад
removed your duplicate comment, if you store the LaTeX equation code in a string in the database and then send it to the browser, you can use the mathjax javascript library to render the formulas in the browser

28:56 You can actually autosize your curly brackets using \left\{ and ight\} so you have: $$ \left\{\begin{array}{rcl} 0&6&7 \\ 9&7&3 \\ 6&4&1 \\ \end{array} ight\} $$

🐄I can't get the color coding to work. I added your templates to my templates folder. I have the preamble from Google Drive. I did the reload after directing the Extended plugin to my preamble in my vault folder. Typed out a $$\color{bred}X=$$ and nothing. Removed my theme and nothing. Edit: I got it to work using obsidian-mathjax-preamble-manager with BRAT.......huh. My head hurts.

haha the curse of technology, sometimes the problems are impossible to fix and it ends up being a missing semicolon or some small setting that needs to be changed

How to create links to equations like this: formula (1) And then refer to this equation without remembering its number, and if I change the numbering of the equations, it will change everywhere.
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 3 года назад
To do this may be possible but it would require a lot of work arounds at the moment. If you need the auto-update of labels/references to equation numbers you might want to just stick with LaTeX
@pyatsyshin
@pyatsyshin 3 года назад
I am also after this feature. I am thinking, ideally, equations should have their own global links. Bryan, any thoughts on adapting links like this [[*]] to accomplish this? Kind of what you did with links to non-existent notes to identify global structure - but for equations? In latex you do need to come up with a \label name, so do you see a way to use such name in a [[link]] instead?
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 3 года назад
@@pyatsyshin i mean you can do a block reference and rename that block reference to. be what you want but its a work around i don't recommend
