Just as I was telling someone yesterday that I absolutely can not wrap my head around the concept of compression and when to know the appropriate time to use it, this video pops up. Thank you dude
This is mad helpful info....so what scenario is it okay to stack ott's? I've seen a few riddim producers do this. Would it just be to bring out more transient frequencies to make it sound fuller? thats where dynamics comes into play. right? No need to stack?
be careful with OTT cause they can destroy dynamics, but in sound design purposes when making a single dubstep bass we usually use heavy amounts of compression to create a new cool robot sound lol
I got 1 more question. When you turn the mix knob down on a compressor, is it making it parallel??? I’m a FL user, so things may be a bit different. But generally, what does the mix knob do?
Hi great question no it’s doesn’t because it’s only one signal being played, parallel means we would have two signals playing in parallel of each other thus having a louder and cleaner result. At audio school they taught this is the standard in professional mastering or mixing studio they usually use busses with effects on them as well.
When making mid bass’s in serum/vital/massive/etc do you typically have your sub bass as a separate track? Or do you make the sub in the same patch/preset as your mid bass? I’m just lookin for an opinion, less of a fact bc i know everyone does things a little different. Was just curious on your input. Reason for asking being that the sample you were using was a mid and sub bass in 1 sample. Thank you!
yes it was worth it 100% because learning sound, waves frequency, mixing, recording, and professional studios is super important. they dont teach creative ableton aspects usually like icon but so worth it! i went to SAE north miami beach
@@Dripment ohh dope yeah I was considering that school Icon would be my top choice but to pricey because you have to pay all out of pocket , any other school recommendations besides icon and sae ?
Drip, when you were comparing the default MB Dynamics preset to OTT... All the up/down ratios were set to 1:1.00 so no compression was happening at all, just 6db of addl gain 😬
Good point, yes with the default multiband we are not using any compression here but rather turning up each band 6db and pushing it through the device. This still gets a very clean result because we are processing each band separately. If you need to compress the signal please adjust the ratios on each band accordingly.
