The compressive strength of brick and clay tile will vary based upon the clay sources, method of manufacture and degree of burning.
Since the strength of brick masonry is only a fraction of strength of brick, the compressive strength of individual brick is of only relative value that affords a basis of comparison between different kinds of bricks. Bricks are usually tested flat as they are more often used in that manner
The compressive strength of any individual brick shall not fall below the minimum average compressive strength specified for the corresponding class of brick by more than 20%.
