Assalam o Alaikum! Welllcome to SWS learn all knowledge channel. In this video I an going to teach you about the derivation of compton effect. Compton Scattering and Compton shift equation derivation.
In comton effect we study about the photon or electromagnetic wave interaction with electron or matter. when photon interact with matter it scatter from the object or matter or electron with a specific angle theta. after the scattering the wavelength of the scattered photon in slightly longer than the incident photon. This change or shift in the wavelength is known as compton shift. compton derived an equation and explained this decrease in the photon energy by deriving an equation which give us the relation between, the incident photon energy, momentum and wavelength and the scattered photon energy, momentum and wavelength.
This video lecture explained in detail the Compton scattering and derived the Compton equation.
Here are some of the key points from the video.
Arthur H. Compton in 1923 directed a beam of x-rays of wavelength lambda toward a block of graphite.
He found that the scattered x-ray had a slightly longer wavelength than the incident x-ray
He further explained that the amount of energy lost depend upon the angle at which X-rays were scattered.
The change in wavelength ∆λ 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑋−𝑟𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑥−𝑟𝑎𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑓𝑡.
In order to explain this effect he assumed that if photon behaves like particles than its collision with other particles is like that of billiard balls.
