Charlie Wilson's story about his label taking Zapp to court and making them take his vocals off the track doesn't add up. "Computer Love" actually WAS released with Charlie Wilson's vocals and it appears on their 1985 studio album "The New Zapp IV U." The Charlie Wilson version also appears on the 12-inch maxi-single as well as their greatest hits album, released in 1993. In fact, the version of "Computer Love" that plays in the background of this video is that very version. The version with Shirley Murdock he referred to is the Extended Version, which appears on the aforementioned 12-inch maxi-single. A radio edit of that version was released on the 7-inch single. Now that version doesn't feature Charlie Wilson, but all other official releases of the track feature both Shirley Murdock AND Charlie Wilson.
Right, because that's the only version I ever heard was with him and Shirley Murdock. I remember one of the first times I heard the song I thought dang Charlie Wilson sound like Stevie Wonder a bit lol
Shirley did well but the track lost something when they took Charlie's voice off. I remember it at the time, Charlie was on the album version The New Zapp 4 U, but the trouble started when they released it as a single, that's when they had to take his voice off.
I searched this for that specific reason. I remember that there was a controversy about the song and There was a suit going on about Charlie's voice being on the song, but as a kid I didn't know the details. This clears it up for me decades later.
I can personally say that before Charlie Wilson and His brothers got famous they resided at a share address where I saw them every day going to the studio to refine their motivation, at the address in Los Angeles they did succumbed to the COCAINE KING and until Charlie Wilson resolved and the interventions i CAIF took their perspective we would not have the great music from Charlie and the surrounding of love he receive to get it right and after the brother pasting maybe never hearing the GREAT Voice he is_______ NO subs and not getting into what is Great or who is. No disrespect to Unc Charlie, BUT Shirley Murdock's version with elements of CW is hand's down better than the original. If you listen to it, the feel, vibe and mix is very different.
