Of all the tutorials i've watched just to learn how to make a message program work this is the only one that explained the 'how to' of a program instead of a complicated example. i've been trying to learn computercraft for so long but after a few consecutive fails on each attempt it became too daunting and i had to give a rest. This video was extremely helpful!

Yes it is a bit slow but I think you are going at it right. You have a good way of walking people through the information and you don't skip things. Just some thing I was told " You build a house with no footings and it will not last. But you start with a strong footing and the house will last a life time." Always start with the basics.

hello i wanted to know is it possible to make a internet in a sever like something that links all the pcs tougher so each person can set up a pc in their room on a sever and send mail to another player on the severs pc or would it be really hard to do? im just asking because im making a new role play that uses user pc's in their rooms

Spelling and grammar are pretty much two different things. If a person is dyslexic, it doesn't necessarily mean that one can't use proper grammar.

What does "expecting =" mean? Especially for programs that don't require the = and are only supposed to have commands such as term.clear, term.setCursorPos, and print? I am writing a disk program for the main computer to call upon if it gets a redstone signal. If it were to get one, it runs the disk program, which displays a huge message on the monitor, which consists of telling the monitor to show the pictures made of text, term.clear, term.setCursorPos, and Term.setTextColor(colors.blue) along with the print("OOOOO"). O = whatever I decided to type for the picture. Upon erasing term.clear, I still have the same message that I need an = sign, but this time on a different line. The first line is monitor top t.v. - This is my attempt at displaying my program on the monitor from the disk. I am using a Gold computer with a gold monitor. I tried hooking it up with a network cable and turned both sides on. However, somehow the command "monitor_0 top t.v." is not being liked by the program. :/

What is your definition of intelligence? Intelligence is not based on physical ability such as a fish not being able to walk. Intelligence is how that fish can think. As a human, I have much more skill in the area of intelligence than that fish, but I fall very far behind in the area of breathing underwater. But that doesn't mean the fish is smart. Everybody has some skills that others can't do, but it isn't intelligence. It is simply an aptitude for that skill, which may be for intelligence.

No, it's really not. There are foreigners who have trouble with English, especially considering that it is by far the most complicated of all the languages. All the people in the RU-vid community that puts down others just so that they can try to get thumbs are just childish and should realize that it doesn't matter how well someone types or speaks when making quick comments. They only want everyone to see how "smart" they are by correcting someone else's grammar.

It's hard to say whether or not this first lesson was too fast, too slow, or just right. I'm sure however that once you start doing more complicated stuff it will be apparent when people start dropping off the radar on these videos. All in all this was a great introductory video. Some tips though: try explaining the "segments" of each statement like "term" means this and ".write" means this and only comes after this and so on.

I hate how well informed I am, it's sad to see most people not really giving a fuck that making mods takes time. Oh and twitch.tv /pahimar this weekend if you want to see how slowly EE3 is developed... I promise you that on the last livestream Pahimar was going to make some new stuff and logged in to Pahicraft and did nothing except for making 3 new sprites and starting to make the calcinator's Texture.

For those who wonders about the FTB modpack EE3 is taking slow baby steps as it's a total rewrite of EE. Eloraam is updating her RP2 and is not finished with it but has far less to do than Phaimar or Azanor. TC3 has few things done but is made quicker than EE3 because Pahimar Sux on doing 16*16 sprites, and he says so himself. Basically all of the mods are being updated and redone to an extent. Stop whining and wait for it just as everyone else is doing. Pahimar is coding EE3 live this weekend.

This is not entirely correct, even when writing a script can be called coding or programming, The term scripting, so not script is mainly used for code that's being processed like the older days batch files, in other words one command being processed until moving on to the next command. So when using a scriptinglanguage, you can never make this program do any multitasking, making it easier to read back and debug. C+ never existed but C, C++ and C# did, where C++ basically is object oriented C.

Well, in response to your comment about people's poor grammar, i think Einstein's job was not a professional writer, but a scientist/physics guy. plus, he's one in a million. If people write well and have good grammar, chances are they're smart. So yes, in a way people that use bad grammar when they could make themselves look good are stupid.

I hope I'm not being rude but here's two points: One) Exercise some patience; it'll be updated soon I'm sure. Two) Why will it be irrelevant for 1.3.2? Are you somehow assuming the programming will be completely different? Will the crafting recipes be changed? Please elucidate your disappointment more clearly.

How is scripting easier than coding? The main difference is that most normal programming languages need compiling, where as scripts do not (this is however not true to all programming languages). The syntax is different from language to language, some people will find a scripting language easier, some will find a programming language easier.

You know, i installed it onto my regular minecraft launcher and it was fine, at the time i posted my comment, i was using one of the mods in the Technic Launcher xD I think that specific mod is just bugged. Anyways besides that, it works for me c: nice tutorial btw!

"If people write well and have good grammar, chances are they're smart." no that just means they like to keep their writing clean. you can stress out all day about your spelling or you can be lazy and only use good grammar when you need it (i.e on a resume or a test where you are graded on Grammar)

Hey dire can u show us how computers receive information like if you hook up build craft gates to display how hot combustion engines get and make a program to receive that data display it and auto shut off the engine also displaying whether or not it is on stuff like that ect...

While learning a markup language may be easier than learning a more robust programming language, the fundamentals are identical. A lot of times it is easier for a novice to learn the basics of how computer languages work on a simpler and less powerful language.

I'm a hunt and peck typer, so it took me 10 minutes to write the code you put on the screen. LOL........If I have to write codes for a computer to do complex things, the rest of my day is shot to hell. Oh well, gotta start somewhere.

The main trouble I have with Computer Craft is I am horrible at working with other people's systems. Lua doesn't seem too terribly difficult, but I just get confused at the things specific to the Computers and Turtles. Hopefully this'll help.

No flaming people for their grammar is stupid. People need to learn that this is youtube an informal website and their is no need to attack someone due to their spelling. calling someone stupid for bad grammar is even worse as the two are not related.

@ToGamerefraDK I'm Learning for it in belgium. It's not easy and all your time goes into it. It's fun but you don't have much free time to play games. And the math is for allot of people to much but i love math. Maby i'll see you later in life ;)

"You're" is actually a conjunction of "you are". I think what "You're" (no pun intended) thinking of is "your" which is the technically correct form of the possesive 2nd person conjugate of "to be". Hope this helps! :)

I think you should slow down a little, most of the tutorial was fine except the changing directories part. You did it very fast and without explaining what was happening, for example, I didn't know what ".." does.

Because the mods he wants to use are not updated or do are not compatable remember how hes multiplayer seires does not have EE2 because it is not compatble with the gravitional suit,and EE3 may come out soon

uninstall all the java's on ur comp and get the newest one had the same problem there are some antiviruses that block minecraft check if your is one of them theres a list on the internet (AVG block minecraft's java launch )

Or you can type on a computer in-game "pastebin get ..." or "pastebin put ...". Where the "..." stands for the pastebin code. I hope I helped you out a bit. P.S. this is useable on a server. :D

Ok, I have never been called sweetcheeks before, I sort of like it. It would be nice if things like boolean was standardised, but I guess its like asking for verbs to be the same in French and English

'cd ..' is just the command to go back one directory. So if you are in the directory 'C:/folder_1/folder_2' then typing 'cd ..' would change you to the directory 'C:/folder_1' Hope that helps.

Are you trolling? The default look of the computer is a black screen... Anyways, press and hold control + T to exit any running programs if you did something with the startup program.

LUA doesnt have semicolons..... AS3 and Java etc. uses semicolons but their Syntax is much more complicated than LUA.. theres a reason Dan200 chose LUA at the first place. :D

I know it's been a hell of a long time but great spotlight Dire. I just wish you had of let me know that if you don't label a computer/turtle then you will lose all of your programs in it if you break it to pick it up. Oh well, time to re-write a few programs. Practice makes perfect right? :P

I suggest both of you read up on Network Etiquette, more commonly called "Netiquette". Just google the word in quotes and you can find out plenty about the subject there.

DireWolf is so powerfull, that he can teach programming while playing minecraft ! Because creating virtuals worlds are funnier when you do them in a virtual world ! XD

Dire wolf isn't a programmer (as he has said himself) however he has gotten really good at it since dan200 came along. I have a suspicion that he knew Lua before he came.

Doubtful, many mods are far off from a 1.3 update. Thing is, until all the mods are updated, the 1.2 version are far superior with all the mods to play with.

No. There are TONS of other programming languages out there, such as Java, C++, Python, BASIC, and much more. This language in particular is called Lua.
