A suggestion for a 90s action, The Saint with Val Kilmer. A fun and underrated spy film that's like a cross between James Bond and Mission Impossible, and is based on old serials and novels, which were notably made into a 60s TV series with Roger Moore before he was Bond.

Garland Greene simply "found God and was healed" if you will, or had some sort of epiphany, when he and the little girl sang "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands". Greene is an introspective, intelligent, self-aware sociopath, and no medical or psychiatric professional could figure him out and treat him because their approach lacked the simplicity of a children's hymn to something outside Greene's sociopathic self. The scene with him and the girl even starts out with them sitting opposite each other like a psychologist and their patient would, she asks whether he's sick and takes any medication, but then she asks him to sing with her, and his expression while singing speaks volumes. That's at least what I make of his arc.

Regarding your question of whether or not Poe would've been convicted: Highly doubtful because of where they are. Alabama has a 'Stand Your Ground' statute, so Poe would have no 'duty to retreat' in the event that he & his wife (who is pregnant, no less) are accosted by drunk bar patrons. Now, in a few US states, their laws regarding self-defense are collectively known as 'duty to retreat'. In those states, a defendant claiming self-defense would have to first prove that retreating from the conflict was not possible, and there was no other option but self-defense. So if Poe was in, say, Maryland? He'd have to convince a jury that retreat/de-escalation was impossible... (Personally, I can't imagine convicting a man defending himself & his pregnant wife from three aggressive assailants who followed him out to the parking lot. But legally speaking...)
@richardw64
@richardw64 Месяц назад
100% agree with that last sentence.
@LordVolkov
@LordVolkov Месяц назад
The lack of a knife as evidence (Poe's word vs the 2 survivors because Trisha went inside for help) would make 'no retreat' a less viable defense in court, unfortunately. It's not always what is right, but what can be proved to a jury.
@MrGBH
@MrGBH Месяц назад
The realistic part is that America is known for not giving military vets any sufficient support after leaving active service, hence why Poe was given such an incompetent lawyer A half-competent lawyer would have known about those laws and urged Poe to plead not guilty due to them

The original script for this movie had the plane crashing into the White House & Poe saving the President from Cyrus. But then the producers became aware of a building in Vegas that was scheduled for demolition, & changed the script to use it instead, so they could save money on sets & FX. Imagine how over the top this would have been if they’d gone with the original script. Speaking of which, there are two (!!!) action movies whose premise is “Die Hard in the White House”: “Olympus Has Fallen” & “White House Down.” Neither is from the 90s, but they’re both lots of fun. Both came out in 2013!

The law portrayed in "Con Air" regarding Cameron Poe's sentence is debatable on a few points: * **Self-Defense:** The movie implies Poe's actions were purely self-defense after a fight escalated. While the details are fuzzy, a strong self-defense case could lead to a lighter sentence or even no charges. * **Military Background:** The judge implies Poe should have shown more restraint due to his military training. Legally, this doesn't hold much weight. The law applies equally regardless of profession, though some argue veterans face harsher penalties in reality [ * **Plea Bargain:** Poe pleads guilty to manslaughter, likely to get a shorter sentence. Plea bargains are common, but the movie doesn't explore if a better deal might have been possible. Overall, "Con Air" simplifies the legal system for dramatic effect. The portrayal of Poe's sentence is questionable, but the true verdict would depend on the specifics of the fight and his legal representation.

Another over the top 90's action flick is "Deep Rising" (1998) with Treat Williams, Famke Janssen and Kevin J. O'Connor. Its more of an action-horror movie with a bit of cheese and big explosions. From the same director as "The Mummy" (1999), and "The Mummy Returns" (2001), and "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (2009). The last one is also a great action film.

Saw this movie in the cinema back in 97,CAGE's films were pretty good back then,now most of his stuff is direct to video,but,I'm stiill a fan of his tho. I was also surprised to see Colm Meany in this film,in this role he was very good,nice to see him play a totally different character from TNG and DS9.

As for spontaneous combustion, too much phosphorus, magnesium and other elements and metals can combust and cause a small controlled fire, next time you get a cut or treat someone's cut with peroxide, if plenty of blood then the peroxide on the gauze will heat up.

Hello Jen!😊 Typically that is not how someone in the military would be tried. His military service would more likely be a positive factor in his case. But, you are at the mercy of the judge and his personal opinion. I knew I recommended this one a year ago when you watched "The Rock".😉"Face/Off" (1997) with Cage and Travolta is a wild film.

Steve Buscemi was nicely creepy! I think Jen had a good time with this one. Love the flying corvette and the theme love song was well done by two country artist! Have fun! The Business about the Judges Judgement is discretionary but has more to do with him a special operations soldier not a general soldier.

1:55 No, it’s not true. The laws are the same. Military background can constitute disparity of force, i.e. the protagonist is much stronger than an opponent and should have not escalated. But there were three of them, they assaulted him and pulled a knife on him. So disparity of force argument is actually in favor of the protagonist. And he didn’t even escalate, he didn’t pull a gun on them and not even his own knife, which would have been completely justifiable. He would have gotten no charge or would have been acquitted by judge/jury. Especially in Alabama at that period. This sentence was just needed for the plot to happen. “One’s body is a deadly weapon” (for military/martial artists) is a misinterpretation of disparity of force argument, basically a myth. No such thing.

You're 100% right on the outcome but the procedure would still be different as he was an active duty officer in uniform at the time so he would had been tried by a military court, not a civilian one, which does have more stringent rules and regulations especially for Special Forces personnel. He'd have been acquitted regardless but just wanted to point that out.
@CallOfCutie69
@CallOfCutie69 Месяц назад
@@jeremygilbert7989good catch, indeed. But by the “your body is a deadly weapon” they usually (and in the movie, too) mean some sort of special treatment by the “civilian” law, which is not the case.

The knife was removed from the scene, so it would be Poe's word against the 2 survivors. Not that it justifies his sentencing, but it would be harder to convince a jury that deadly defense was necessary without evidence of a knife.
