It's not too shocking really. When both the Raiders and Rams left LA in 94, the Raiders were the more popular among the two teams. Also both teams leaving created a generation of NFL fans in LA rooting for teams throughout the country and sticking with those teams when the Rams/Chargers moved to LA. It may take generations for the Rams to have a rabid fanbase similar to the Bengals, Eagles, or Packers. I just gave a serious post to a comedy podcast.

I think So Cal is just weird. Hell, the Chargers are famous for other teams' fans dominating their home games, even when they were still in San Diego. When covid hit, Melvin Gordon had recently been traded to Denver from SD, and a reporter asked him about playing in an empty stadium... he just said, "I was a Charger for years, I'm used to not having any fans in the stands."

@@richardewonchuk8660 it’s a bit different with Winnipeg. You had the Blue Bombers and that’s it. In LA, you are competing with the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings, Ducks, Galaxy, LAFC, USC and UCLA. I’d argue that Winnipeg is more culturally ingrained with hockey than LA is with football too.

LA went 25 years without a football team. I don’t watch football personally but all my friends hitched their wagons to other teams in the country because we were like 3 years old when they left. They’re not going to just give up their fandom because they came back. It’s going to take a while for them to rebuild an actual fan base.

As a Saints fan I agree with Conan I remember them saying that when the saints played there was a literal dropping crime during the hours they played. That's how serious other cities take their teams.

Same here. Lived in boston for 4 years and patriots were in the super bowl for 3 of them. The city went mad for them. Moved to LA a few years ago and since I moved, we've had the lakers win the nba finals, the dodgers win a world series, and now this with the rams. But yet most of the LA doesn't really care about any of that. It's just not a city with a strong sports culture which is ironic since we have two teams for p much every major sport here

@@MrCornelius234 would disagree regarding the Dodgers. There's generations of families that always root for the Boys in Blue, especially amongst the Hispanic community. Attendance that are always one of the highest in MLB. Believe me there is passion in baseball. Can't speak for the Rams, and the Lakers, albeit has a strong cultural following, is not consistently the same since Kobe retired.

Grew up in CT and moved to Boston for college, been here 20 years. I can walk around downtown, or get on the subway, and instantly know if there is a game and who is playing by the way everyone is dressed.

Loving this format Conan. Keep the audience. Bring back the big guests, and remotes. You're a true comedian and great interviewer. If Joe Rogan can get more viewer than legacy media stations then you can too. Just gotta get the guests people wanna see and then do things people wanna see. Great guests, great remotes and great remotes with great guests, all with a professional production value. If it's a good show, people will watch

Conan is completely spot on. I live in LA/OC and nobody cares about the Rams...they had to restrict tickets during the LA/SF game. I am from Wisconsin (Packers fan), and love the passion Midwesterners and New Englanders have for their teams!! (and same love goes for PA and upstate NY, just in case anyone felt that was excluding them)

Sports fans are weird. I wore a Raiders jersey to the bar, in Wisconsin, for that game right after Brett Favre's father died, and good lord I was not sure I'd escape without bodily harm. Every other cheesehead in the place was throwing popcorn and coasters and everything else not nailed down at me. I had folks insulting my dear sainted mother, threatening to follow me into the bathroom and kick my ass, you name it. It was hilarious and bizarre. The really funny part about that is, in that game Raiders fans - generally regarded as ranging from unruly at best to downright insane and dangerous - had the whole Oakland stadium bristling with signs wishing Brett well. But all those "nice, clean-cut, sweet middle-America" Packer fans in the tavern liked to have stomped my guts out for wearing a shirt. Even though their team won! LOL. Thank goodness the Packers did win; I may not have lived through it. :p

Once Stanley Enos Kroenke got full control of the Rams, he cheaped out on everything. Old Stanley did everything he could to kill attendance and fan enthusiasm. Coach Jeff Fisher was the cherry on the top. I don't hate the Rams' players but Kroenke isn't worth 2 dead flies!

sent to a Super Bowl party in LA and can confirm this. When the Rams won 80% of the crowd was not watching the big screens and there was just a smattering of cheers.

LA is very much a sports town. The Dodgers, Lakers and Kings are everywhere in LA...flags, signs, hats, apparel, bumper stickers....everywhere. Local restaurants will give free food away to everyone the day after the Dodgers win. It is just that we didn't have an NFL team for 20 years (1995-2015). So football isn't a big deal here. When the 49ers were in town for the NFC championship, there were more of them at the stadium than Rams' fans. Will be interesting to see if that changes over time, but I haven't really seen the NFL take hold in the seven years it has been back.

L.A. only ever seemed to care about the Raiders. I'm from Missouri and we used to have 2 teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals. The only team anyone ever talked about was the Chiefs. It's no wonder the Cardinals moved to Arizona.

When I was 6-years-old the Bengals were in the Super Bowl. I remember mom painting my face orange/black, and wearing a "Tony the Tiger" nose thing. People younger than me can't remember the last time the Bengals won a playoff game; We fans pained through that 30-year drought. My daughter is 6 now, and we painted our faces during the playoffs. The cycle continues...The Rams don't have that because they've keep moving (they even started as an Ohio team: The Cleveland Rams).

It's true. I was running errands around here in west LA the other day and did a double-take when I saw a woman in a Rams jersey. My 1st thought was "must be a tourist!"
