However, many people are in situations where they love someone but feel they can't say it, so they use "than." Doesn't make it right, but if it helps them then may as well.

I ended up being written up and grounded and the other girl got nothing so that kinda sucked but whatever

anyone else notice that the line is "i'd rather lie THEN tell you i'm in love with you" instead of than, than is used for comparison and then is used for sequence of time. the sentence makes sense with both meanings and the natural inclination is to assume it's a typo but maybe it has deeper meaning, like he'd rather lie, as in be a liar, as in be someone he isn't, and then confess feelings, like confessing would be easier if he was someone else.

I think that this song holds such a powerful message for those who have to face a dreadful truth and its hard to express their sadness or heartbreak especially in front of a person or people who they don’t want to breakdown in front of . So, the question or words “fight or flight” is like an internal struggle. Like, should I just run away and hide forever or should I confront my current situation and do the best I can to do or say whatever is necessary to show that I am indeed a strong person and that none of this persons/these peoples actions affect me or my determination to stay strong.
