Conan grew up in a very toxic household and comes from a financially unstable background so affluenza is just an interesting topic to him.

the interesting part about affluenza is that he didn’t grow up with lots of money at all, it was the opposite and he just found that topic really interesting bc he never really thought about it that way

He is not rich . He is just talking about rich kids in LA after going to few insane parties for the first time.

Conan has talked about a lot of struggles his family had with money, parents, and constantly moving when he was younger. It is kinda the opposite of the song Affluenza but he found the topic interesting.

Istg Heather put me through so much visceral anguish when I first heard it that I genuinely wanted to throw up lmao. I’ve never heard a song so effectively represent my internal feelings in such an exact way, as if I was writing it myself from personal experience, while also being a song that I adored melodically. I’m still not over it. He coulda called it “ha ha this will demolish your sad gay heart” and it would’ve had the same effect lmao. Edit: Just realizing when it came up during the video, my involuntary response to Heather is equivalent to the thanos screaming meme

I just experienced this album for the first time through you. The only song I knew (and already loved) was Heather. I’m now in a puddle of tears after that last song, as a 39 year old woman who has still not fully come out.

After a year I can successfully say- The Story still leaves me speechless 😌🥲

The term “affluenza” itself started as a defense that a lawyer used in a case where a rich white teen killed someone after drunk driving, and it was a defense basically saying that his affluence was an impairment on his ability to judge responsibly. …… the worst thing is that the judge ruled in favour of him and only sentenced him to a bit of community service

He wrote The Story(my fav) by himself too...a talented King. He also wrote Checkmate in just 5 mins.

You need to listen to his debut EP and few singles too soon.

conan writes all his songs alone ! online love is written and produced by conan, i’d reccomend listening to his first ep sunset season, you can definitely notice his growth to kid krow but its a great ep, the first song on it named idle town is a song produced and written by conan that actually got him out of the situation he was in and have a career in music since he was a youtuber before that

all of his songs are written by himself! if there is a co writer on one of his tracks it is typically dan nigro who is his producer and he will change a lyric every once in a while, but all the concepts and original drafts of the songs are written by only him!!!

I honestly don’t think that there are people who wouldn’t wanna hear affluenza. It’s a common trope in movies and shows that the rich kids parents try to buy their love and the thing is, although poorer people may not get the struggles of the rich, it’s common that people who are rich are that way because they work so much and so hard to the point where they don’t see their family and sacrificed relationships to work harder. As a kid, when your handed a silver spoon and taught that money is replacement for love and only surrounded by wealthy people who may be using you, you’re probably gonna end up more damaged than not. As long as you have what you need to survive, money doesn’t really matter that much, the happiness you feel from gaining more and more money hits a plateau and than you look for other ways to be fulfilled and when you can’t find them like kids who have affluenza it’s very painful. And I say this as someone who is lower middle class. Everyone has struggles and the idea that you can’t feel bad about yours just because someone else has less is wrong and outdated. A similar song to me is “super rich kids” by frank ocean. If you haven’t listened to it you should check it out or even his whole albums if you haven’t. Also, Conan is unlabeled and he said the song heather is from his perspective.
