If there was ever a video making clear what a conductor actually does, then it is this one.

21:11 Wonderful, so easy, so important, no showing off, just pure music making, creating sound, helping the musicians.

This is a fantastic experience listening to the Maestro working with young conductors. Anyone who asks what a conductor's role is should be referred to this masterclass. Warm regards from the Jerusalem Symphony orchestra.

I didn't expect this amount of pure love and joy from a masterclass. But I found the deep care and fond in this class. Thank you for creating culture, history, bonding, and love through music. Very lovely.

I first watched this series (with Fischer) two years ago, and now I'm rewatching it. This taught me more than anything else I've read or watched what a conductor can do with an orchestra. I learned so much, and therefore I'm grateful to the Concertgebouworkest and to Maestro Fischer.

When conducting an orchestra at this level, it's almost as if the conductor becomes a witness to the beauty around him.1:08:20

After that solo, the orchestra "claps". What are they clapping? The solo, the direction? I don't know if it is some kind of tradition, or what.
@JackieLastrada

@@franciscos.5165 They were clapping for the soloist (the flutist) his playing was beautiful. It takes decades of practice and dedication to play that transcendent in space. I'm a professional wind player as well, , I know the feeling.

Could anyone explain me what maestro Fischer means by saying "C/E/D natural" in Mahler? Is that a C with a natural accidental? What's the theory behind it?

I get the feeling, that young conductors lost the feeling for the rests and fermatas in the first movement of Beethoven 5. These are tension-rests, not just some marks. Mr. Dendievel took them very short, which isn't very fitting, I think.
@Henning_S
@Henning_S 4 года назад
Totally agree on this, it seems rushed and loses its tension due to this!

A great musician listens to the rests... It can easily be an 'articulation'. (Mozart was precise on this aspect of his writing ; we tend to forget it.)

Great, lady had too much energy. Too high gestures for most passages, even with many corrections. Hopefully she plays an instrument sometime in the future. For most part, they need more flexibility and simpler gestures. Very great masterclass. Hopefully I get such a chance to learn under such dedicated and detailed Mæstro as Fischer. Very helpful indeed. Best wishes to students!

Quite disgraceful to see how inexperienced (and oftentimes: clueless) these conductors are. Virtually every mistake they make is the sort of mistake that should be correxted in music school. They only have their (made up) CVs and references to thank for getting them in front of this orchestra.
