Concertino written by Friedrich August Belke who had a splendid career as a trombone virtuoso - (a contemporary of Karl Traugott Queisser) who had premiered as a soloist at the Gewandhuas in 1815 at the age of 20 (many years before Queisser), one of the first to have played the first Bb/F Tenor-Bass Trombone, and appeared throughout Germany with Franz Liszt, Clara Schumann and Nicolò Paganini among others.
In 1828 - 9 years before the Ferdinand David Concertino, Belke composed his Op. 40 Concertino. It is clearly in the style of the early romantic virtuoso piece - not unlike the Carl Heinrich Meyer Concertino that Belke played at the Gewandhuas in 1815.
I found fragments of it - an edited version of the solo in one place, parts of the orchestration in others - and have worked the recreate it as faithfully as I can. I completed it today (mostly) in it’s original version for classical orchestra. I will work on a piano reduction and a version for band over then next year.
