Fantastic recording! It's so smooth. It just sounds effortless-it's quite inspiring, really..... I think I'll go practice now!

I love this piece. It’s always been one of my favorites. I’m currently a junior in high school and I’m thinking of playing the first movement for solo and ensemble this year but I’m deathly scared of the altissimo sections lol.

This chamber concerto for alto saxophon and chamber orchestra (wind quintet + trumpet + string quintet) is well in line with the style often playful of Jacques Ibert. It is a delight for the spirit and for the ears.

He really played this very well! Even doing the unthinkable in terms of some saxophone players, sacrificing “skill” for musicality!

Arno Bornkamp is a true consummate musician! I saw him perform a solo recital and he gave program notes from the stage, all from memory! His playing was as immaculate live as heard in this recording.

At 2:02 it sounds like the altissimo concert Ab is being held as the saxophonist continues to play other notes...?
@-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-8
Magic... in reality he was playing two saxophones at the same time both mouthpieces in his nose
@alanding6659
@alanding6659 7 лет назад
That would be pretty neat (especially intriguing is how his nose could form a proper embouchure), although I have since checked the score and found out that it's the 1st violin and the flute that hold the note out, which, when combined, seem to match the timbre of Arno's note very closely. :)
@nomorecoolusernames647
@nomorecoolusernames647 5 лет назад
honestly it kinda sounds like the flutes are playing it, maybe he played that specific note in tune with the flutes to get that effect
@jacobbass6226
