He sounded a lot happier once he dropped the flugelhorn, and those stubborn low D's, they don't like to speak when you're that stressed out. Sounded great up top. The arrangement kind of morphs into a Virgin de la Macarena ending.
I don't think it is him, I think it is the character of the piece. Sounds like the flugelhorn section is supposed to be darker and more emotional and "sad" while the trumpet section is supposed to be brighter and more relieving. Yes those low D's are not the best pitch on flugel, a good enough player knows how to get around them and I think he does just fine. (Personally I've never had problems with low D or C# on flugel except for when I first played the instrument)
@@evanmisejka4062 exactly they’re only sharp so it’s not like you even have to work to get them in tune - flatten the instrument. Notes that are naturally flat are the really difficult ones.
Third slide needed to be out more. Not sure what kind of flugelhorn he's using though, some of them basically don't have an adjustable slide or trigger, which makes low D and C# off centre of pitch. So you either play out of tune (sharp) or force the instrument off it's natural harmonic by bending the pitch, which sounds a bit thin and takes some effort to avoid wobbling in pitch. With those kinds of horns I'd suggest extending the third slide to put the D in tune and just avoiding using 3rd valve where possible with alternate fingerings. The obvious issue will be Ab will be flat now.

Grottenhafte Intonation auf beiden Instrumenten. Ist aber heute bei sehr vielen Trompetern festzustellen. Hauptsache C4, C5, XYZ, egal ob der Ton stimmt.
There’s been a lot of money spent to design triggers to help with bottom Ds and Dbs. Or just play in tune. Put some air through them. Unforgivable to play them that badly, as well as some really dubious intonation on the trumpet too. A performance to forget.
It was a solid performance, the part on the bugle was a bit to shy for my personal taste, and the high e at the end was problably fingered for sagte reasons, but over all not bad
@@corbynjones8750 the first part was played on a bugle, he switched at arround the half to an trumpet. Look and hear closly, the sound is very diffrent
Yeah likely the guy who composed Spain LOL - Chick Corea, who based it on the Concerto d'Aranjuez and used the chord progressions. But beyond that.. not much similarity.
