My conclusion? When I get a gaming PC, I will elect to install both flight sims and enjoy both for their strengths and benefits they each offer. The bickering over which one is the best is child's play, and I will leave that to the "Is so" "Is not" crowd!
The gap in physics between MSFS and XP shinks with each sim update. Asobo also just hired the lead software engineer from il2-Sturmovick so its pretty much a wrap.
I want MSFS to grab a few simple XP features such as great replay/fly-by capability included and increasing the options for control mapping. I watch replays in XP all the time just to look at the beautiful aircraft (because although XP default terrain is sketchy, most of the aircraft exterior/cockpit texturing is on point). That said, I dig them both mostly because of the selection. XP has helicopters/aircraft that I want to fly that don't exist in MSFS. MSFS has PMDG DC-6/737 and an outstanding CRJ. The analog series by Black Square (I think?) is a wonderful addition as well. They both have their strengths and both have their shortcomings. The only thing I don't understand is why everybody's getting so angry about what the other simmer is flying? It's all cool; we can all meet up on VATSIM; we can all fly it our way. The market will sort out whether or not "XP is dead!" and Microsoft reigns supreme! Heck, there's people still flying FSX because once you've invested hundreds or thousands of dollars into scenery/aircraft over the years it's hard to give it up I think. Whatever you fly, hope you're having fun!
@@activex7327 No turbulences in CB’s, no weather radar, bad behaviour on ground, no good simulated brake coefficients according to RWY-conditions, no replay, no tower-view, overcast or broken clouds not depicted in live-weather, unrealistic wind changes on approach etc. MSFS is still more an arcade-game than a sim. XP is the opposite. MSFS has not much to offer except the visuals. Perfect for XBox-gamers who don’t know how aviation works. Lol 😂
@@kedwyd6535 Yes but only some facts not all. I could list the same number of shortcomings about X-Plane. For example, no air flow simulation over terrain, no simulation of turbulence in thunderstorms, etc. And he actually did just that in the video series. I think his conclusion is pretty fair and most serious simmers would probably agree. That's not to say though that X-Plane might work better for some people. I understand people being tired of the less realistic ground handling in MSFS. Mate, I think you are very bias and it seems like you haven't collected much info.
@@frankbyte wow what an example for an x plane fanboy 😂....the only thing that is actually somehow true is that msfs isnt good on the ground behavior anything else is x plane not better or even worse hahah...lol
Personally, I was a die hard XP11 user for quite a long time. I used to use XP9 in the days of FSX, and went from that to V10 then V11. I couldn’t stand FSX ‘on rails’! And then FS2020 came out… I was sceptical of the MSFS flight dynamics video showcases just before it came out. I had kind of decided that XP was ‘more realistic’ even before buying FS2020. But then I started real life flying lessons and had the shock of my life! I discovered that the GA aircraft dynamics in MSFS actually felt superior to that of XP! And since using FSRealistic with VR… WOW! Plus I can really practice VFR with it’s amazing scenery and replicate my real flying lessons. People think that ‘eye candy’ is not that important for real pilots - they are SO wrong when you consider that VFR is what most private pilots start with! And for VFR, it’s all visual so being able to recognise the area accurately from 3,000ft up is essential! It means I can practice a flight in the sim before doing it in real life, and I’ll know what points of interest to look out for! I can’t speak about the airliners as I’ve never flown one in real life (and probably never will!) but for GA and PPL VFR training, MSFS is my tool. I’ve found that XP has a reputation of having a better flight model all because LR uses blade theory. This has stuck with the product and made it stand out, despite MSFS using their own fluid dynamics. So for me, it’s MSFS all the way. Now I just have to wait for Just Flight to release their Piper PA-38 (the aircraft I train in, in real life). It’s been over a year in the making and is supposed to be their ‘best GA aircraft yet’ according to the website. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done.
I have both sims with all major airliners. Both are good in certain areas. Which I like more? To be honest, XP 12 despite the worse graphics. Why? Because it feels better. Physics, sound, menus, addons, community. MSFS feels too gamey for me. That's why I go with XP. But sometimes I also use MSFS. I use 80% XP, 20% MSFS.
I do love MSFS2020, but I can't get over the... what is it again?.... ...."plasticky" feel of the graphics and scenery, despite their obvious qualities. Too saturated. MSFS' photogrammetry look like photographs in many ways, yet somehow there's a subtle, unnatural, "comic book" aspect to it at the same time, which I actually surprise myself being annoyed with! The lighting is definitely not to par with XP12, whose environment is less saturated, more natural looking, despite its shortcomings.
@@harveyrichard2007 Definetely. MSFS has the appearance of a game or comic movie. But since XP 12 still has many flaws, I am trying to get used to the Fenix A320. But only because I have to.
The disappointment for me from MSFS is the omission of tower and flyby views. I am not at all against the drone feature. But it has killed views/cameras that made MSFS what it is today. And I cannot compare the two. They are two sims with two different objectives towards aviation world. And I am grateful that they are incomparable, no matter how hard we may try.
There is one thing X-Plane does better than MSFS 2020, Helicopters. If you like to fly helicopters, especially in VR mode, X-Plane RULES over Microsoft Flight Simulator. Everything else, MSFS 2020 is my simulator of choice.
I don't mind rotary flying once I am getting going in FS2020. But for complex maneuvers and takeoff/landing DCS is usually my go to for helicopters. FS2020 feels too on rails and almost arcadish, and All X-planes I have ever flown in are either too twitchy or too spongy depending on how I set my axis curves.
@@Sample_246 Sorry to hear your experience in XPlane, but as a real helicopter pilot, MSFS 20202 is a toy compared to X-Plane 11/12. Twitchy you say? Go fly a real helicopter and let's see how you do the first time you hover. You will scream how "twitchy" it is. I want the REAL EXPERIENCE, not a toy game feel. MSFS will get to that level someday, they aren't even close to that experience now. That's just plain truth!
people should really compare X11 with X12. So far most that do this tend to focus only on MS as eye candy yet does has so much more to it yet.. they don't real focus on that
I have all of them, as in XP11, XP12, and MSFS. XP12 is a buggy mess, from slow frame rates, to purple artifacts, specially if you have an AMD system like mine, its not ready to be judged yet, its in Beta. I actually think all XP 12 is, is them getting XP11, which i do enjoy btw, the flight dynamics are wonderful, but as im playing in XP12, i cant help feeling, all they have done is hard code in all the mods we put into XP11 to get it looking something like nice. To me XP11 actually feels nicer in the flight modeling than XP12. MSFS is in a class of its own tho, nobody can ever compete with that now, and i dont even know why they try. There is room for both, depending what you want to do. MSFS when you want to do a bit of sightseeing, XP11 for the flight dynamics, XP12, na, Skip that for now, years off being ready that thing...
