When the best designed characters in your game can be described as "Guardians of the Galaxy rejects", something went very wrong during the conception phase.
I think theyve accepted that it will be a failure and are trying to get as much out of it as possible. Thats the only logical reason to launch this game and charge upfront for it. Make a few million and shut it down or at the very least release very little content for it but allow it to stick around to avoid taking a full L on it. I feel that Sony probably already has them working on something else by now.
remember when western games used to make cool bad ass characters... cool males and attractive females... now they go out of their way to make the most unappealing characters known to man
The characters look like they're already wearing skins, but all from different sets, because there's no theme or color that unite all the characters they look like they're from different games.
If everyone criticising you in the comments bought the game, they might see a noticeable increase in playerbase. Of course we are only talking about 10 or so people.
Even ignoring all the unnecessary inclusive stuff, the characters are just not "cool" in any way. Most of them look like when you start an RPG and your gear is garbage and doesn't match yet.
Overwatch's idea of diversity at first was cultural background. All characters behaved and sounded differently and their race was appropriate to where they came from. Concord's idea of diversity...change skin color (avoid white) , body structure and sexuality.

Yes the characters are ugly. Well, I don’t even know if I could call them ugly… they’re just hella bland and boring. Which is even worse… like nothing about the characters catches my attention…
This game elevated my morale because I felt like my OC designs were bland before I saw this. I was laughing at Daw's part. Whoever designed that discord mod has to be held on gun point because no way in hell any man wants that soyjack to be their persona in fiction.
I think the biggest issue is the art style. I'm not sure what they are supposed to represent, but they look like the writers self inserted themselves as Cosplayers dressed like what they think a character in a game would look like. It's like Photorealism; it's well drawn and very realistic, but it's bad uninteresting art.
When you saw the character was good, actually you said the character was beauty or good looking and had identity. When you said the character was bad it was bcos generic and ugly.
I rather play overwatch 2, warframe, the first descendant, genshin impact, zenless zero zone, or honkai star rail over this game And the best part about these games? They're free! You don't have to pay a single dime to play these games! If I wanted to play a game for the characters, I would play these games

soulless and bland is pretty good words for those characters. I think maybe that happens because they don't have any own ideas and all ideas are just copy from other games? feels like tha art department is missing or there is technical competence but no creativity or imagination
Thing is, for example the obese Emari, those characters can be so cool if it’s done right (Juggernaut, Reinhardt etc) but this just feels like it’s done to appeal the woke bullshit. Such a waste
I did character designs for some tabletop games and TCG art so at least I had expirience at drawing characters. And this is. This game. Is painful to watch. Insane. Painful. To. Watch. And this robot thing... all I can say - 2B from Nier was a robot too. This is how you can design a "robot girl".
Like game itself behind the mask seems like a pretty solid game overall. But like the characters, the price, just everything else about this game is soooooo basic and weird. Just completely odd especially with the hate it was getting the entire time. $40!? These games are free and established already! $150 million for off brand Overwatch that's $40 more it's gotta be laundering
I hated the character designs in Injustice 2 but they were simply bad. The character designs in this game are beyond bad. My friend said the game was supposed to be Overwatch + Guardians of the Galaxy. That didn't work and the designs suck.

@DarkStar777 I get that debate is good but the neither side has any want to trade ideas. If you don't like something don't frame it and hang it on the wall for everyone to see is my main mentality. Seems like ppl love to center their time around things they hate. Rather then showing off the things that they hold close to their hearts. Just seems backwards to me. I'm only saying this because not many ppl even knew this game existed. Tbh I'm not sure why I'm even talkin about this. I hate mobas. They are fundamentally broken and not fun to play but that's just my opinion. But force narrative shouldn't be in any form of art. Seeing as it's the art that is suppose to patray the narrative of its own design. Adding pronouns to game characters is weird to me. Why not just have a lore card seems like lazy character design. Whether it's dei or not. Who really cares about a pixels gender.

I came to see why this games is WOKE. Win for gamers overall though imo, showed the power we have with our wallets and how none of us want this type of nonsense
The gameplay feels like Destiny which makes me wonder, why not come up with a hero shooter set in the Destiny world/lore with cool Destiny characters that tie in to future dlc/games? Or why not have this team work on a separate mode on Destiny? It's just so weird and seems like theyre trying to come up with something new instead of just leaning into the strengths of established IPs. Hell make a Hero Shooter/game with PlayStation IP's sprinkled in with new characters similar to the Smash Bros PlayStation fighting game. Just seems like PlayStation took the path of most resistance by greenlighting a new IP that is destined to crash and burn especially with such boring uninspired character design.

Emari is built like a TMNT Also most of the designs look like if you asked ChatGBT to create characters for a Hero Shooter. Some of the ugliest and worst character designs I have seen.
