It cost 200 MILLION dollars to make. american dollars. It took them 8 real life years to make it. And in less than 2 weeks something like that goes down the drain. We don't need to get all rage--y about it or even mention the culture war stuff, but how in the world is the situation not, at the very least, amusing and potentially educational? You can discuss how an industry can change in 8 years, and how game dev is not sustainable when a single game takes like 5 plus years to make and sucks up so many resources. I see NL's point that there's more important things to think about, but Concord as a case study and as a spectacle of failure is interesting. ±0 to NL.

This is kinda surface-level thinking, at best. If he doesn't care, that's fine, but that doesn't mean it's not interesting. The creative bankruptcy and lack of awareness of what is good or fun on the part of developers and publishers who wield budgets you don't even understand the magnitude of; this is interesting. It shows that quality can't actually be bought, and that's worth discussing in terms of creative endeavors. Shoestring budget games and movies can inspire a huge amount of popularity and rake in insane money, while $300 million games and movies can fall flat on their face and bankrupt people overnight. Isn't that a fascinating thing?

I think the web of factors causing its failure is potentially interesting and worth studying for anyone trying to publish a successful game. But the culture warriors celebrating its death because of DEI or whatever are just clueless. They weren't there when the Lawbreakers fell. They weren't there when the Gigantic fell.
