Before I get started today, I want to share with you a few words that was sent to me by someone I call Yo Gene. He knows who he is and I know he doesn’t live off of recognition like so many do. Because our recognition will come when we meet Jesus. Hallelujah! So between him and me I thank you Gene for sending me back in the old days for a moment. Every, once in a while we can look back over our lives and be thankful. A 1974 soul hit written and performed by William of the DeVaughn said it like this; Though you may not drive a big Cadillac - Gangsta whitewalls - TV antennas in the back - You may not have a car at all - But remember brothers and sisters - You can still stand tall - Just be thankful, for what you got.
Are we killing each other because we lack something? Is it because we want what someone else has? Well we had the answer way back in1974 and 1975. How long is this blanky blank gonna last?
Does it take ole school songs to Wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed as Harold of the Blue Notes said. No more backward thinkin - time for thinkin ahead. Wake up all the doctors make the ol' people well. Wake up all the builders time to build a new land. The world won't get no better if we just let it be. False lyin' - False preachin' - False teachin' - Wake up, y'all - Come on - You preachers - Start preachin' what you teach - Teach the truth - Wake up, preachers - All liars - Politicians - Stop lyin' (stop lyin').
You see Saints, I didn’t need Church, so I thought back then, because the old school soul singers came from a gospel background that I didn’t know anything about, but the lyrics stayed in my heart that’s why I can still sing and remember the words to those old songs. It made a difference in me.
And I’m here to tell you today if we could only get Gods Word in us like that era of Motown, Stax and Atlantic Records, what a world this would be. But look at what happen. The songs turned vulgar, the entertainers dress like hoochies and thugs. At least I had a little bit of Church without knowing it, but now there is no church at all in those songs and entertainers. Let us pray…
