I sent my 3yr old poodle to a board and train program and she’s an absolute rockstar bc of it, now I’m trying to DIY my 4 mo old and these videos are very helpful. I get the basics but am trying to find a trainer w/ a virtual program
Not all dogs use the same level my dog has so much hair we have to go a little higher 25, and sometimes he chooses not to listen to the correction so we put it even higher since it’s not doing the job.
Could be a Couple different things your dog may not be used to leash pressure and is fighting that, the stimulation may feel weird to them and will die down over time, your dog may have learned to shut it off by thrashing (learned negative behavior), ive also seen dogs be weird on a micro and moving up to a 300 helped, or if they were on a 300 first and acting weird move them up to a 1200 helps but before switching collars mess with different prong attachments reducers reduce the stim 50%, another tip moving the collar lower down on the neck is less sensitive than higher and closer to ears
In the conditioning phase, You can either start tapping the stim as you give the command or a second before you give the recall command. Stim stops as soon as dog commits to coming to you. Lowest possible levels detected by the dog are being utilized in this phase.
How do you differentiate this from a correction? (I do not use ecollar, only vibration and beepers). I know people use stim for a correction or a redirect cue but never as a recall. Do you use different levels?
Yes this phase of training is not correctional. After they show sufficient understanding of ecollar conditioning for recall, the stim is used on moderately higher levels only when the dog is not complying with command.
That’s exactly why this will work well for those dogs. Once dog understands what ecollar stimulation means, you can find a level they will respond to when distracted by another dog. Not relying on food motivation after ecollar conditioning is complete.
