My mom and I stopped in today to see Clyde and his great collection of stuff. He’s a cool cat. To my one reading this who hasn’t been by the old garrison I suggest you go by for a visit.

I live in Salisbury and just learned of this prison. So much history here in Salisbury. The prison was ment to hold 2,000 but at one point it held up too 11,000 prisoners!!! Poor living conditions, starvation, disease etc. Many were buried on the site including soldiers. They held funerals with all honors on the grounds for the soldiers.😮 I think the trenches are less then a mile down and leads to the Civil War Cemetery. Because when i first visited the cemetery i read a historical sign that said the part i was looking at was part of the civil war prison! Ahhhh wow! I love history and i know Salisbury is full of it but living here 23 years i never knew about this part. Going there tomorrow morning! Btw i have a friend who lives down the road from the cemetery she told me some nights when she is outside smoking in the middle of the night she hears loud booms like cannon balls going off!

Salisbury is so nice. There are so many historic locations there. We visited here five years ago. Not too far from us. I'm glad you found this video and hope you have a great visit tomorrow.🙂I imagine there are a lot of residual hauntings there. Thank you for the info ✌️

Wow I have never seen behind that building before. Did you have to ask the owner before going back there?

My Great, Great, Grandfather is buried in one of those mass graves. His name is Adam Jury and he was a man of God. Someone once told me that he has his own grave there but someone else told me he is in a mass grave so I don't know the truth.

Yes, however it did hold confederates too. My great great great grandfather, of Virginia, deserted his unit and was held there until he died in 1864 when the excess yankee prisoners were brought down from Richmond. We believe him to be buried in the trenches of the Salisbury National Cemetery.
