Just started a job making an active directory and have never done IT work before (I'm a software programmer) and your videos have saved me so much headache! Thank you so much!!!
John is the one and he is extremely precise, I strongly suggest whoever is in the IT world to follow MR John including his videos and explanations of course.
Hello I am using Windows server 2008 r2 we are using a trial version for 6 months. I don't see the option Internet Explorer Maintenance. I also don't see this in our live/production domain. Am I missing something when I am trying to run this? Or is there a role that needs to be added? Thanks.
Hi Phil, unfortunately the policy to push proxy settings isn't available with later versions of IE (10 & 11). One option to consider is to push the settings as user configuration 'Preferences'. This Microsoft article gives and overview of what's involved: support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2898604 hope this helps Jon
Hello I did find a setting to set the homepage. I'm not in front of the server right now. But I remember it was like something like this: "disable the ability to set the home page" and when I did this and set it to the home page I wanted it worked exactly like I wanted it too.
How are you Jon? I need to ask you this, If the administrator enable System Restore later when he logs in as an Administrator he can access Control Panel but he can't access System Restore because System Restore is a policy enabled on computers and it will affect the Domain Controller. Thank you for your time. Talk to you soon. Take care, John
Hi John, domain controllers sit in their own OU. I tend to make very little to, no changes to the default domain policy. It's good practice to create a separate OUs and policies. My own preference is to create OUs for computers and OUs for users. When testing, or if you no longer want a group policy to be applied the computer it can be moved out of the OU. With group policies, both admins and DCs can be subject to the policies if applied to the OU, so it's important to be careful, especially with DCs, multiple DCs replicate with each other and this has to be taken into account.
@@ittaster Thank you Jon, yes I will practice as you did in the video. That's good understanding not to be out and be extremely careful. Some employees sometimes need to face problem of this nature unable to rejoin the system, also I like to ask you in order to avoid such problems. Thank you again Jon. Talk to you soon and take care.
good video. Im having an issue editing a GPO i created in windows 2008 where i want to set google chrome as users default browser. GPO has been creted in group policy management but now im stuck in GP Management Editor. where do i navigate to adjust my GPO i just created.?
Plz tell me how to DISABLE MY DOCUMENTS , if we are running a client machine window 7 pro and server 2008 r2 in Vitual oracle box. plzzz soon .. this GPO is not available in your any Vedios
Asheesh Kamboj Hi, Group policy has a policy to redirect the 'Documents' folder to another location. A common method is to redirect the 'Documents' folder to the user's home folder held centrally on a server. Unfortunately there isn't a Group Policy to disable 'Documents'. Hope this helps. Jon
were or how do you get the Internet Explorer tab under the windows settings tab under the policies tab and then under the user configuration! Need help to Block WebSites!
Hi, I'd recommend using a proxy server to block users from accessing specific websites, and direct them to it using Group Policy. Most proxy servers will allow you to manually block sites, but this method can get time consuming and hard to keep up with, so you might want to consider content filtering software too.
+Paulo Pinto Hi, Are you running server 2008 or 2012? The Internet Explorer GPOs are different in 2012, some of the IE settings can be found in user preferences.
Hello again Jon, after review your video again I assume that we need to understand Computer Configuration Setting and User Configuration Setting. Thank you and talk to you soon.
Hi John, group policy is making registry changes, these can affect users (tied to specific users when they log on) or the whole computer (often when it starts up). Some settings are purely user based, others are applied to the computer. Each policy has the two sections. Often it can be a case of searching around, but others are more self explanatory. After using GPOs for a while you get more used to where to find the settings needed, but there are many settings as you've seen! GPOs are really useful to us sysadmins, hope this helps.
Hi, I would always recommend making very few changes to default domain policy. It's good practice to create separate OUs and group policies rather than modify the default policy. My suggestion would be to begin with a 'test' OU, which allows a user or computer to be easily moved in or out of the OU during policy testing.
Sir thank you for quick reply ,domain environment when I am change date time on client pc message show like "you do not have permission to perform this task. Please contact your computer administrator for help." How we can give user. Right to change date time it self.
i must say i like your English accent although i haven't done viewing this video, it sounds like you are from England, plus sounds like Klaus from vampire. Anyway, thanks for the video, and i'm studying now.
I would go for downloading the evaluation iso from Microsoft website, this will enable evaluation of Windows Server including the installation process and the choice of server core or full gui.
Great Video's!! subscribed! I have a question however. If I wanted to create a folder via a GPO to %UserProfile%\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, how would I do that? Thanks a bunch!!
Antonio Battista Hi, you can create folders in Group Policy using 'Folder preference items', this is a preference setting rather than a policy setting, it can be found under Windows Settings > Folders in both computer and user config, hope this helps. Thanks for subscribing and your comment. Jon
Ya I found where to make the setting change, but I'm trying to have it create the folder in %userprofile%\appdata oaming\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs ewfoldername but it just doesn't want to work for me 😕 the goal is to have this folder placed in each users individual profile since the content of the folder will be unique to each user. thanks so much for the feed back.
Antonio Battista Hi, it would need to be a user preference rather than a computer one, but the problem is likely to be because your working with a user profile, if you have roaming profiles? this will further complicate. I also think you're going to encounter issues with new users when the profile is first created. It's worth exploring creating a Powershell deployment type script to accomplish the task rather than Group Policy.
