It kinda IS arbitrary though. Chromosomes inform your body of *what* to grow, not how much to grow nor what hormone to produce, and it *can* fail. Someone with XY chromosomes and no twig&berries is functionally female in physical sports, as it is the berries that produce testosterone, not the chromosomes. In Imane's case, it really comes down to what "equipment" he/she has down there.

Though some XY people have developed the external appearance of a female, it is nonetheless true that they do not have OVARIES, they have TESTES... it is just that those testes are located where the ovaries would have been. Well...there are XY people whose bodies fail to react to testosterone in the canonical fashion. If you saw such a person on the street you'd say that's obviously a girl or woman. She's got the testosterone level but not the musculature, Q angle, lung capacity et al. that would usually imply. Not saying the Algerian athlete is such a person, and what I've seen makes me suspect said athlete is not a woman, _but_ XY doesn't always mean a body of the sort we'd all agree is male.

Jr high and high school kids are given full physical by the city to make no one drops dead on the wrestling mat. But all these world class athletes are never given a physical by a IOC doctor? Indeed. But if she was born with a vagina and not a penis, then is it a man or a woman? If that's the case, then if you insist she's a man then you are in support of transitioning. If she was born with a vagina and is just an extremely masculine woman, then she should be competing in the women's division. And yes, a woman born with Swyer Syndrome can have XY chromosomes. There are a number of conditions like that or PCOS that can cause more masculine traits in women. They're still women though, unless you subscribe to the liberal ideology that appearances determine gender rather than sex.

Its treated with female hormones and having them transition to adult females because externally it would match, the alternative would be creating a man with a micro penis. Do i think this boxer has an advantage here? No, not really, i doubt they have testosterone or other angrogens. But im not going to pretend its not a male with a genetic mistake. If their SRY gene they carry was activated, they would look like a normal man. So them with healthy normal development they would be a normal man. Not a female.

JUST SO YOU CAN KNOW: Imane Khelif is not a female or trans. His intersex condition is (DSD Disorder of Sexual Development - affects 0.5% to 1% births) in which he was born with underdeveloped or obscure genitalia. These organs often become more obvious during puberty, so calling him a girl at birth or after is not correct as he has all the attributes normal men have due to high testosterone, (greater: bone density, heart, lungs, strength, muscle development etc.) and that is why he failed other sex tests in professional boxing recently. The O-Games Franchise directors are relying on the fact that so few people understand this rare condition, as they gaslight everyone including Angela Carini and intentionally mislead the world to push their woke agenda. Literally it is "small wonder" he does not want a genitalia assessment. Literally he is a woman beating coward, and barely a man, but a MAN!

A lot of people think that chromosomes determine your sex; they don't. The gametes your body produces determines your sex. Depends. Has the person taken puberty blockers and had a female puberty, or did they start after/during puberty and have a very low testosterone level, because of medication and/or surgery. There are so many variables that influence wheter or not a trans-women is strong. Whereas trans-women who underwent hormone replacement therapy after/during puberty, are more than likely to be stronger than the average female.

@vendasiax666x8 You can't HAVE a female puberty if you aren't actually a FEMALE! Any person born with XY chromosomes will always have a MALE puberty, only muted/diluted. If this boxer was actually born with XY and had testosterone insensitivity during puberty, that doesn't suddenly mean they went through a "female puberty". They still produced massive loads of TESTOSTERONE during puberty, and next to zero estrogen comparatively. And because they have XY, they'd still react a metric sh-t ton more to testosterone than they would the miniscule by comparison estrogen. And what does testosterone do? Build muscle. Strengthen bones. Grow more twitch muscles (faster reaction time). Increase lung capacity. And many, many more things that are advantageous during PHYSICAL sports. If this person had XY chromosomes, they literally CANNOT go through female puberty. It's not biologically possible, because they'd start releasing egg cells and menstruating. Men and boys cannot go through female puberty, and women and girls cannot go through male puberty. That isn't how biology works. Puberty is based on hormones, their gonads (testes v ovaries), and GENETICS, not just hormones. Female hormones, but male gonads and genes =/= female. It = male. Male hormones, but female gonads and genetics =/= male. It = female.

Except it's not the Y chromosome that dictates sex. It's the SRY gene that is normally attached to the Y chromosome (hence the Y in SRY). However, if it's missing or non-functioning, you get someone with female genitalia/body who can get pregnant and give birth but has XY chromosomes. This is, apparently, the case with Imane Khelif, who is not trans as they're represeting a country where being gay or trans gets you locked up - if you're lucky. Similarly, if someone with XX chromosomes happens to get the SRY gene, you have someone who has male genitals and can produce sperm but has XX chromosomes. So yes, XY can be female, XX can be male if you're looking at their reproductive organs. And that's the rarer form of DSD, which seems to be a lot more common than you might think. There's quite a detailed explination of all this in a recent BBC article, and from there you can check and confirm the accuracy if you're inclined. But no, it depends on what you consider to be male and female: If it's the reproductive function, you can have XY females and XX males. If it's chromosomes, you can't but you can then have XX boxers with male physiology beating up XX boxers with female physiology - and you're right back as square one. See the problem? Alternatively you need two more categories: Those who don't fit into the XX female and XY male categories.

What happens though is the body kinda arbitrarily decides whether you are a woman or man but you will have the genitals and the physical growth of one gender or the other. There’s likely no testicles, but it’s still a male. It’s most likely Swyer syndrome. He has a vulva, but probably no ovaries or uterus, if there are ovaries they won’t work. Likely he had to have HRT to go through puberty. Pretty much all intersex cases fall on either the male or female side, usually denoted by the Y chromosome.

Complete Androgen Rejection is a DSD wherein an XY boy is born with a (sometimes incomplete) vagina, and will likely develop breasts capable of breastfeeding. It is divergent sexual development. Technically she was raised as a woman, and functioning in society as a woman. This particular one is a real head scratcher because she was born with a unique set of circumstances that brought her here, and before a complete understanding of chromosomes, everyone including doctors would call her a very manly woman.

Regarding testosterone levels. What they call a “normal level” is up for debate. Mens testosterone levels are plumiting here in the US, and a lot of doctors will say oh thats normal now. The key word being “now” I dont trust these people to know what the correct level of testosterone is, let alone be honest when it comes to male/female differences

In the simplest terms, genetics determines what sex a person is and hormone levels mean nothing. XY is male. XX is female. Outside of that, any random group of 10 men will have 10 different testosterone levels. A random group of 10 women will have 10 different estrogen levels

Well, and when you start testing testosterone levels in biological women you start basically weeding out the people born with a genetic performance advantage - which is often what the Olympics is all about. I am not for trans mean competing against women, but if you're born a woman then you should compete in the women's category, no matter how butch or manly you might appear. Arguing that this woman is really a man (despite being born with a vagina) because of how she "presents" is basically the horseshoe theory at work, with many coming back around and claiming that this woman with a vagina is "really a man".

The real story is that he was born a biological man with Klinefelter syndrome - a sex based deformity that appears at birth as female due to poor formed and I descended testicle etc. so they marked him female and raised him as a girl. Then at puberty the balls “dropped” and the testosterone hit and they realised he has an intersex condition. They then couldn’t be bothered to correct it so just left it. He has gone through FULL male puberty meaning it really is a man Hitting a women and the international boxing association barred him for XY chromosomes and high testosterone. The boxing association was unrecognised by the IOC so they just default to passports… no other checks

I've called trans people their birth sex because I didn't believe it genuine or got too absorbed in the ideology but I don't think it applies here.

@@Touma134 IF Imane actually has Klinefelter Syndrome (otherwise known as 47 XXY because there are two X chromosomes alongside the Y), which I actually am skeptical of, it actually would've been very obvious at birth that they were male and simply had diminished genitals, they would not have had female genitals, so for them to be 'assigned female' would've had to have been an intentional effort to label a clearly male child as a female. That's actually why I doubt that this is what is true but, if true, then they would categorically be male, both genetically and physiologically. If Imane has a DSD (and a Y chromosome), it's much more likely that it's a 46 XY disorder such as Swyer syndrome or 46 XY 5-ARD or some kind of incomplete AIS (Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome), all of these disorders are male-only disorders though, whether they develop some female genitalia or not. I do not think that 'they were raised female' should be the single, or even the most important, determining factor in how they should be referred to. You can call it petty if you want but, ultimately, I care about being linguistically accurate more than I care about the feelings of some person I will never meet let alone have a personal relationship with.

It's even worse than that. The term "Cis" does exist. They use it to give a thin layer of legitimacy to their ideology. "Cis" was used in Latin words like "Cis-alpine" (meaning "the Roman side of the alps"), as opposed to the term "Trans-alpine" (the other side of the Alps from Rome's perspective). This makes "cis" the antonym to "trans". Which makes it grammatically "correct", which they like whenever it makes them look smarter. But you're right that it's almost never used in English. In fact, the meaning drifted so as to be more related to time (eg "cis-WW2" is functionally equal to "post-WW2", but we stopped using "cis" for that in the 18th century pretty much.)

That is the only logical end of this, as long as this is allowed and is pushed. Women will have literally ZERO sports representatives. Women don't seem to see this, though. It's unfair to let Khelif compete. He is way stronger, with a way bigger range, than the other women. It's so sad and unfair for the italian boxer, that she was destroyed by that in just 46 seconds. The only reason, why Khelif was seen as woman at birth, is, because she has some female bodyparts outside. Still, she has male, working bodyparts inside, and male genes. I see it like that: there was testing with mouses years ago. They let human ears grow on their backs. It was just the outer ear, the auricle. The ear didn't work. So they looked a bit like walking ears with mouseheads and legs now. Are they still mouses or ears? They are mouses, with mouse genes and mouse organs, and nothing can change that make them ears! So imo, that's the same situation. It doesn't matter, that Khelif grew up as girl, and how she dresses, her genes are male, her blood test results say male, 95% of her body is male. I understand, it's not a nice situation for her, because she might have a disadvantage, would she compete with healthy men, but sometimes it can't be fair for everyone, and it's better to protect women's sports and health and don't let her fight against women, than just to let her do, whatever she want, and let her ruin women's careers and health while doing so 🤷‍♂️

Supposedly they are. Love how something you can see in a highschool microscope is make believe, but something that is just loosely based on “well people from this region tend to have this pattern in their DNA so if you have that pattern we’re going to assume you’re from there” is totally irrefutable unquestionable science. Even though in the canine version every black & white dog gets flagged as part border collie. Even if it’s a purebred Boston Terrier. Almost like they’re using the black & white DNA code and saying that means Border Collie. But the cops love that they’ve got a huge database of DNA that these companies happily share with them.

The questions remain. 1. Why did the IBA target and disqualify FIVE boxers including Khelif and Yu-Ting in 2023? 2. Why did Khelif initiate an appeal but withdrew it? Why not end the controversy once and for all? 3. Why didn’t any of the other four not appeal? 4. Why hasn’t someone with Integrity come forward and tested these two and put an end to it? IE: Dana White 5. Why hasn’t either country done testing to put an end to it? Unfortunately, we will never know.

I remember hearing about how years upon years ago that Russia had their female athletes doping themselves with testosterone. These females were banned because they went over a certain threshold of testosterone. These athletes are born as females and doped themselves & now we have males that inhibit themselves by taking estrogen however they are not banned for some reason despite their testosterone most likely being higher than that threshold as well as other advantages. It takes a lot longer for males to adapt (I use that word loosely) to estrogen than females to adapt to testosterone. We are talking years apart, I think it was something like ~2years for females and around ~6years for males.

From what I've read she was born a woman, with woman parts but has a rare condition which means she has XY chromosomes to spite having female parts. While I am sympathetic to her situation, it doesn't change the fact that it gives her an unfair advantage against other female athletes and poses a threat of serious injury to her opponents in an already dangerous and regulated sport. It may suck for her to be denied her dream but few of us are born with the attributes needed to excel at the sports we love, we just have to deal with it.

That sounds like a concocted story to me. I've got no issue with adults transitioning. I don't even have a problem with them competing as long as there is full transparency. Competing for medal, accolades, and $ seems wrong to me. I'm not a Woman though, so they can all sort it out for themselves.

Your title hits it on the head (no pun intended), Bearing - it's not 'Women's Boxing'- it's a televised vision of a man repetitively striking a woman; whether that man _claims_ to be trans, or has DSD/ Intersex- whatever, is entirely immaterial: biologically male (or too male to genetically register as a woman) individuals have **no place** in women's contact sports - we have had age, weight, & gender divisions for an exceptionally long time- we have those to protect the competitors, & to make sports fair -- this is *not* hard to fathom...
