@Robert Ruschak Or maybe, being belligerent instead of following scientifically proven methods to reduce droplet disease transmission is an example of group think. Use your critical thinking skills. Diseases which are transmitted via droplets from one person to another spread when someone coughs or sneezes without covering up. They can also be spread when talking. Wearing a mask has been demonstrated to block this transmission by placing a barrier between two or more individuals. When all individuals are wearing a mask, there are now two or more barriers between these people, greatly lessening the chances of a droplet containing a disease from being spread from one person to another. Note, this applies to all diseases which are spread in this manner. Now, what is your logical, fact based argument for why wearing a mask is equivalent to slavery?
@@GothicElf68 i don't think wearing a mask is slavery and yes it does stop droplet transmission but in one year you'll see the larger picture emerge. It's not about masks or vaccines at all but molding the masses into wanting their own freedoms taken from them in exchange for imagined safety. Menticide at it's finest "NEVER LET A GOOD CRISIS GO TO WASTE"
@Antonio Romero Unfortunately and sadly true. Many of these anti-mask, anti-vaccine people are listening to conspiracy theories put out there by extremist groups who are disguising their propaganda in the name of 'freedom.' Most of the people listening to this crud are either not intelligent or not educated enough to check the sources of their information, let alone the source their sources are using (if there are any to begin with.) As an example, I was discussing with one person I used to work with how the delta variant is predominately affecting those who are unvaccinated. This has been documented by several studies and there is ample statistical evidence out there to back this up. His response was to talk about how the two states where this was being demonstrated in the highest numbers were border states (Texas) or otherwise had large amounts of undocumented immigrants entering the country in (Florida.) He was trying to shift the blame onto these illegal immigrants. This blame shift was preferential in his mind over acknowledging the fact that the vaccine and masks combine to massively lower the risk of contracting any variation of COVID- and in those few cases were infection still does occur (because nothing is 100% effective) the symptoms are greatly reduced and far less likely (again statistically demonstrated) to cause serious damage to the person affected. Interestingly, within a day I figured out his 'source' was a far right wing radio talk show with a host that did not even bother to tell anyone where they were getting their information. Without documenting or otherwise stating the source of information, anyone- be they common ordinary person on the street, politician, or talk show host- can spew whatever propaganda they chose to create and claim it as fact. NOT checking the source of one's information is by far more the action of a brainwashed 'sheep' than taking the time and energy to fact check where someone is getting their information and what evidence is being provided to support the claims being presented.
@synchromorph subscribed. I knew they were an abusive brainwash cult that profits from people's suffering since childhood. Why is it that when the Nazis forced "trail and error medicine" upon unwilling subjects, its a war crime, but when psychiatric professionals do it, it's "helping"? One word: GROUPTHINK.
@Seven Inches of Throbbing Pink Jesus I highly doubt you were a psychology major in college considering your lack of knowledge between the differences between psychology and psychiatry. Psychology is the study of observable human behaviors and utilizes both observation and experiments which can be documented and replicated (like any other science.) Psychiatry is a medical doctoral profession, which involves study of the anatomy and physiology of the brain and how certain medications affect this organ. A psychologist may study behavior, provide therapy for mental illness that aims to find the root cause(s) and alter the behavior through cognitive thinking and other approaches, and can work in business or law, using knowledge of social interaction. A Psychiatrist works in a hospital or clinic and can prescribe medications that affect the brain in certain ways, to provide clinical treatment for mental illnesses (without actually determining the root of said problems.) Even a first year college student studying psychology knows this.
@Seven Inches of Throbbing Pink Jesus This is laughable. I'm about as non-conformist as they come. I got harassed a lot as a kid because I refused to conform to what was 'popular' and instead do my own thing. I still do that. I like and listen to music most people have never heard of. But I am the conformist here because I believe in science. And yes, psychology and sociology are sciences, even if they are not hard, physical sciences. They still utilize double blind experiments which can be and are replicated with similar results. As to your calling the DSM-5 a 'bible' and using it derogatively, I will assume that you believe all mental illnesses are made up by attention seekers. You likely also consider education a waste of time, considering your derogatory terms of college educated brainwashed idiots, which tells me a great deal. Anyway, it is obvious we will not agree on any of this and there is no use in either of us trying to convince the other, so, let us simply agree to disagree. You can reply to this if you wish, but I will not deign to reply.
@Seven Inches of Throbbing Pink Jesus Damn...you're one sad, angry person who seems to hate things you don't understand. Your comments are completely without substance and you seem to only be concerned with bashing people and institutions. To what effect? I have no idea. In my opinion, anyone who goes around claiming the majority of the world is brainwashed is the definition of irony. Sounds like you're suffering from a case of the Dunning-Kruger effect. I'm guessing you don't think it's even a thing, considering the phenomenon is based on the research and studies of two social psychologists...
@@areyousureyouenteredyourna85 So one stranger's comment on a RU-vid video confirmed and verified your preconceived opinion of an entire branch of science? Interesting. A case of confirmation bias, perhaps?
wonderful presentation on conformity and group thinking and social psychology group thinking, unity problem solving technique Thank you sir for the presentation
@@johnnyboy3390 if he is fucked up, it's because of that very type of judgement. I know because I too have post traumatic stress, caused in several ways by the very people who labeled it. You are the problem.
The reasons for grou[ conformity are simpler. First, if you ever don't conform it's you against many. Second acting as a group also spreads blame. In our society things are messed up. We apply collective punishment when individuals do something. We individually punish when the group does something.
Excellent presentation of social psychology, conformity (peer pressure), group thinking, make unity- problem solving technique. Thank you sir this wonderful value.
Ok. Now I know why I'm a social out cast. I've never owned nor trained a dog but there is no way in h*** I would go along with anyone wanting to use a shock collar, even if that person was a pro. Come to think of it, I often disagreed with teachers as well if I knew they were wrong. One teacher was so annoyed I was right, he refused to speak to me for the rest of the semester. Funny thing, I look back fondly at that and doesn't bother me a bit.
shock collars are actually very useful if used for boundaries. They beep instead of shocking so the dogs can run around freely in the yard. Training them could be somewhat unethical, but I've heard of a dog that managed to strangle itself on a leash
Im a bit fatigued from study and just wanted to say this is the easiest video to watch on this topic. so thank you. :) ps completely irrelevant, but have you seen group think explained by that guy with the sunglasses that talks with his hands?........i wanted to punch my computer screen.
Sounds like every freaking group, hence the word "group" in Groupthink. If you only think it is found in religion, ironically you might be conforming with antireligious groups.
quelorepario religion is greatly more of a group then nonreligious groups, as nonreligious groups aren't nearly as organized. Joining whichever group leads to groupthink. I don't know why everyone in this comment section think they're geniuses with sociology and social psychology. And I sincerely hope many people here are not trying to become physicans with their twisted views of these topics.
WestCoastBurns if you think you could do it better, you definitely should. Not saying you're wrong to say that, just that it's better to learn from many different people! Spread knowledge.
The little barb wedged in there about Congress, given that this was made in 2014, was that an example of "informative influence" or "confirmation bias"? XD
Jesus & Religion = Groupthink with zero historical evidence of Jesus ever existing. After believing a lie for so long, people would rather defend the lie than to critically analyze it or change their opinions due to fear of being ridiculed by the masses who still believe this fairy tale.
Even if you don't believe Jesus is who he said he was, there is a lot of historical and archeological evidence to confirm that Jesus was a real person that existed 2000 years ago..
in5d The historical evidence for both Plato and Aristotle are in written form yet none have a problem with believing they existed. Why is there a different standard when it comes to Jesus?
Nope! Probably you are a liberal due to peer pressure, hence, a victim of group thinking. Probably you didn't researched before posting your half-assed opinion, which is by the way conformant to the mainstream liberal views and not a result of critical thinking.
Sounds more like pple are lacking brains. They really have to look for opinions of others so as to not be seen as foolish? Like seriously, I believe that using that cruel collar on an innocent dog is not just morally wrong, it causes pain to others- so im gonna say NO, no matter what others think. Fu** what others think! Besides, whats the worst thing that could happen?
think of it like this. say you had two siblings and all three were living with your father. your father talks all day long about how much he hates the police. your two sibling ,idolizing your father, agree that police are bad. you are the only one with a different opinion so the group would then make you feel like you are wrong and even provide examples and explanations why your wrong and seem shocked that you could possibly feel any different from them and shun you. in "most" cases ,unless you felt very very strongly that police were great, you would conform to the group opinion that the police are the enemy so you will be included with the group. that is groupthink.
Actually group think is important because it helped us develop as children. If you can balance your own personal views with groupthink then id say you're open minded
LizXXX I'm fairly sure the example was just used to make the concept easy to explain and grasp. There are similar things that could happen in your daily life that might just pass you by.
Does beginning every sentence with 'So..." count as groupthink and conformity? Fucking annoying. It seems to have spread to every interview, narration and conversation nowadays and I'm sure it's only because everybody else is doing it -therefore it must be right. Stop it. It's wrong.
I'm afraid agreeing with you is merely going to count as groupthink and conformity. Therefore what must be right, is to stop you from seeking conformists to perpetuate the cycle. Stop it. It's wrong.
