Conga pattern in old school disco by Johanna Hamminga 

Please post more conga videos like this. I play drums but I really want to learn how to work with other drummer on congas in non traditional settings.

General Request about playing with Drummers: I would like to watch a video on Johanna discussing "strategies" on approaching various drumming patterns. If she discussed out loud how she would solve those problems then I could use them too in unfamiliar situations. Thank You.

By all means have Johanna return to demonstrate more conga patterns, love this video tutorial. Her dicso conga has all the elements of two drum Guaguanco with slightly different left hand movement. I'm curious what other patterns Johnna would play with a drum set player? This was very useful and informative -- thank you both.

Great rhythm, and great teaching! It's helpful to see conga patterns that can be applied to non-Latin music. I'd love to see some examples of what you would play over reggae.

I enjoyed the video and the breakdown of the conga pattern to accompany the drum disco rhythm. Just one thing though to make it complete: After the lesson, it would have been nice to hear how the drum pattern and the congas sound together.

I think Johnny Conga could be right, but this is still a great conga rhythm, lots of good left hand technique. Like Johnny, I also don't recall hearing this in any disco songs, but agree it could fit nicely. Nicely done, Johanna!

great upload! works great on bongos too..especially when started on 4,so its sounds kinda like off beat with the regular disco pattern...nice groove!

Man Joanna this is a grovvy beat that I can use with many old school songs as its a bit rough sometimes for me playing with a blues band. I will definetely use this as I already use tumbao in some slower songs where it fits but this will give me more flexibility. I'll work on it until it becomes natural.

For a moment there, I thought she couldn't speak.

Im Sorry but that was never used as a "Disco" pattern in the United States...and if it was please show me the tune it was used on?...I was with the Disco Queen Gloria Gaynor during the whole Disco scene in the 70's and Im even the inventor of a "Disco" rhythmic pattern...you can see me and hear me playing this with Gloria Gaynor Live in Finland videos here on youtube..
