Thank you for your time putting together a great series on the conibear trap. I watched all four. I don't trap but understand why people do. I've got friends who do it with trap lines. I don't have the luxury of running a line because I can't check my traps on a daily basis which is the law in my state. My neighbor at our mountain house traps and will be taking me out and show me how it's done. There are beaver in our pond that need to go, so he's itching to get started. Thanks again for a great instruction series.
I saw a one handed conabare setter on another video that is unbeatable. It's a 6" bicycle chain with a T handle on top end and a flatened >C< on the bottom end of the chain. Hook the C on the bottom of a spring holding the trap down with your foot and pull up and hook the C on the top eye on the spring. The C holds the spring compressed. Repeat if double spring. All one handed release and fast. I could release my hand in 30 seconds or less with one. The down side is you will need 2 for a double release. I say carry 2...
I bought some 110's to have just in case & to learn with. Watched your 1-3 vids. Awesome. 10 mins after watching this vid guess what, my dumb butt snapped a trap on my hand. Luckily I had just made my rope & had it right there. Anybody who is new to these traps & skipped this vid I will be praying for. Thank you for putting this up. Seriously.
Great video, catching yourself definitely isn’t much fun. I only got it with a 110 magnum and couldn’t imagine a 330. That’s why I always take my time and ALWAYS use a safety on the jaws until I’m ready to walk away from the set. Also check out Trapper Ron’s safety setter, a great product that not just a setter but can also compress the springs one handed to get yourself out of a trap if needed. There is a few videos on it here on RU-vid.
Watched all 4 videos and subscribed. I will be trying a 110 for squirrel and the pans you described will help to put the bait on. Have a good one from West Tennessee
@@Meattrapper Be sure to either alter the rubber jaws so they don’t slip, or get a firm/solid grip on the eyes. But it works awesome! I have some cheap old 330’s that are so tough that they bent the short setters arms. Quick grip is the way.
Thank you for the series of Conibear trapping videos. I am grateful that you covered so many different applications of the trap. The main point I keep thinking of is that a mechanical device can do the hunting while one is attending to other survival issues. Definitely will be looking to get a few of those gems.
thanks for the classes, I just ordered a dozen 110s for a bug out situation, and you have provided me with good info. I will be using them to attempt to catch squirrel in order to become accustomed to how to use them properly.

Great channel. Haven't trapped in awhile but I always enjoyed how close to nature it made me feel. Aside from a couple of nice fisher I caught my most exciting was a nice bobcat that sprang at me on a gut pile foot hold set. Glad that chain held.

when you use the rope, maybe cut it long. Throw the loose end over a branch and pull down to compress the spring. This will place your hand holding the rope in the same area as the safety. You can reach over with your thumb to engage safety.
MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO IVE WATCHED ON TRAPPING! Brand new trapper for pest groundhogs. Newly setting 6 Belisle 220s. 1st thing I did, even before I opened the trap box, was to make myself a set/rescue safety line. I thought, ‘this might be overkill, but I’m alone and I’m better prepared than wishing’. 1/4” 4ft rope with bowline knot loop. Stuffed it in my pocket, and began checking over all my brand new traps. Everything was fine, so I set 6 traps without issue. On my last trap, I noticed my trigger wires were off center a bit, and thought I’d just ‘move them over, a bit. Didn’t set my safety’s. Didn’t add my external safety clip. As I ‘carefully’ attempted to slide the trigger about 1/2” it went off, catching 3 fingers of my left hand. At first I was shocked that it had happened. It hurt, but I could tell I wasn’t injured. But I recognized I could neither pull my fingers out nor use the setters. So I reached into my pocket, pulled out my rescue rope, and proceeded to easily release myself just as shown in the video. Without this video, I’d have had to walk to my truck, drive home, and work with my wife to release. With my rescue rope, ONLY known about from this video... I was out and reset within 2-3min. I was an idiot, and I learned... and it was purely because of this great video and video series. Thanks for the video and your finger saving information.
Wow! Brother I am so glad you were able to self release! There have been trappers who have staked conibear traps deep in the cold water and get caught, and who were unable to self rescue and have died from hypothermia. Yes just be sure to check the quality. I've heard some folks say that they have had them break at bad times. no Never used one myself so I can't offer any first hand opinion ,.
i would only use a ratchet type caulk gun with a geared op rod. www.lowes.com/pd_525856-39554-JM117FG-B___?productId=50279721&pl=1&Ntt=caulk+guns#img... as the slip op rod types are known to slip/fail with a tube of caulk in use. if the frame seems weak. i know how to weld. and flat stock isn't to bad expensive.
10* advice, and safety warnings. That is why I would want to have a ranger banded wooden 1x1 or 2x4 on my forearm so that if the trap snapped, it would grab the stick and not me!

Why don't you just put 2 bowline knots on the rope. One on either end so that you can put the other loop around your neck and all you need to do is start to stand upright for the spring to be compressed. You can use your free hand to help pull on the rope, but the loop around your neck serves as the way to hold the rope instead of trying to use your teeth to hold it while you set the safety.
I have a very scary conibear story my dad's friends nephew was up trapping beavers in Canada he was using 330s under the ice and he thought he had a beaver but when he reached down the hole to grab this beaver the trap went off and caught him by both hands long story short they found him the next day almost in the hypothermic stage gladly he's up and walking today

@themeattrapper me and my grandfather. were trapping groundhogs at a friends farm with 220s and I had a catch I picked up the trap and it was not closed all the way on the ground hog because the ground was in the way of it closing and when I pulled on the jaws it closed the last inch and onto my knuckle my grandfather got it off and I was fine but your right it hurts bad
What is your recommendation for groundhogs? I have numerous groundhogs which are nuisance pests under large 500yo trees. I’m guessing they are about 10-15lbs. I’m not a ‘trapper’ but I’m capable. My goal is the ‘easiest and safest (to me)” trap to rid myself of these groundhogs. I doubt it will be something necessary long term. But I have about 10 holes around my property and likely there will be some move in occasionally down the road. Money isn’t the issue, not that I’m rich. Just that I have a specific purpose and need.

Very nice not sure if you still trap or not but a guy I talked to last week was talking about raccoon carcasses to feed alligator farmers with wondering if you have done that by chance.
With this black woman in the news because she decided to put Gorilla Glue (Hello, the name??!!) in her hair I have decided there is no such thing as 'common' sense anymore. Some people have sense, most apparently do not.
Last year I had my leg get stuck in a 330...I thought I was gonna lose it but once I got my head back on straight I had myself and my buddy getting the setters on the springs as fast as we could. Still have a rub scar and I don't honestly know what would've happened had I not had someone else there with me...I've been practicing setting with my arm and the ground but I'd have to leave the river's edge to get a solid enough surface to push the tongs back up with enough force...I've been practicing since it scared me so bad. I agree and I usually don't use 330's now if I'm alone....I can throw a snare there just as easily.
+Nicole Nielson Yep - it's all safety nonsense until it happens to you - then it gets real - real fast! Glad you got out relatively unscathed. The snares are lighter and safer for sure. I only use 330's now when I have to have the beaver dead like on a control job or when I'm going to have a multi day check. They are supposed to be great for one handed rescue. $50 is expensive till you are caught, then it's nothing.
