When she sang I almost cried. It reminded me of when my mother took me to a Garifuna speaking church when I was little. I don’t speak and I barely understand, but I was raised Garifuna through and through. So the singing feels like home. I feel so related and connected to her through the singing, it’s crazy. I feel among family. Thank YOU PROFESSOR!!!

After seeing the different dishes made of planatain i started having a nostalgic feeling. Yes I am a Nigerian, from southern coast and plantain is my traditional dish. This alone gives me that connection to the speaker.

Although there are many Garifuna people in the United States, I have never met anyone who told me they were Garifuna. I had a Costa Rican coworker tell me about the Garifuna people.
