The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This was Connie's first #1 hit in 1960.She also had Teo other #1 hits. Altogether she scored 35 top 40 hits betwern 1957 to 1964. I can't believe this clip doesn't even have 1000 upvotes yet, we're lucky classic appearances little this still exist! Connie, here in 2024, alive and well at age 85. 🙂

I used to listen to Dads records of Connie Francis growing up as a kid ! First heard her sing on Dads records in 1959 or 1960 when I was 3 or 4 years old and would sing with Dads records while hed be playing them on his RCA stereo ! Been a fan ever since !Im going on 66 years old now !

In April 1960, MGM released "Jealous of You" with "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" as the b-side. By the time of this performance, the b-side was the far more popular song. Two weeks after this performance, "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" was Number One on Billboard's Hot 100. The bad news is that - later in the show - Connie did a medley of "Bill Bailey" and "When the Saints Go Marching In."

In the 1960s, a Swedish adaptation of the song emerged under the title "Tunna Skivor," which translates to "Thin Slices." Though the lyrics and meaning were slightly altered. The song was performed by Siw Malmkvist, one of Sweden's most beloved artists of that era. Her rendition became a huge hit and remains a beloved classic in Sweden to this day. No, she is not the first female to ever get a #1 hit. I assume you referenced Wiki and then forgot to include the ending of their sentence, " to top the Hot 100". The Hot 100 chart first debuted in Billboard on 8/4/1958. So Connie was the first female in the 16 month history of that chart to top it. Prior to the "Hot" 100 chart was the Billboard "Top" 100 chart. Of course women topped that and the other Billboard charts prior to 8/4/1958. An example is "Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds in 1957.

@@shyman99 Oh thank you but that's what I meant.. For the Billboard top 100.. It was Connie with Everybody's somebody's fool, then Brenda Lee with I'm sorry and then a few years later 3rd place was Shelley Fabres with Johnny Angel :) Those 3 are the first three women to score number #1 hits on it. As for previous and after singers compared to Connie Francis I'd say none of them match her. In second place I would put Lady Gaga. These two artists did and do it all. I am really impressed with them two as my personal favorites. 👍

I'm sorry but there are way too many Connie Francis performances as of late. It's better to spread them out over time and then your viewership for them will increase over time. Based on what I have seen, they are not that popular of performances so I am unsure why the Ed Sullivan is so stuck on them.

Connie was likely the most popular female vocalist on the charts from 1959-63. That's the same time period Ed Sullivan had a Broadway show tune named after him. Might as well enjoy the memories while we can!

It may be that the Ed Sullivan Show channel had to get rights to these performances and finally got them. As for too many from her at once, I disagree. Seeing these makes me want to see more.

@@rslitman The problem with uploading so many in a short period of time is it will lead to loss of interest for her performance by many viewers who may not know her and may not care for her and also lead to loss of interest in the channel since this appears to be the most predominant performer they are uploading. I am not saying they shouldn't upload the videos. What needs to happen is these videos need to be uploaded more gradually to engage viewers a little more and mixed in more thoroughly with many other performers, especially ones who have either not had any performances uploaded (Fifth Dimension, Dave Clark Five) or very few uploaded (Platters, Rosemary Clooney).

Well I’m sorry. As a starved Connie fan I want as many/much, as I can get. For decades she was one of America’s singing sweethearts, so a show featuring her would draw viewers that’s why there are so many she was/is that good. And you’d settle for a trickle, well not me open the flood gates, turn her loose. I don’t believe the world deserves her but it certainly needs her.

@@ABALLAM3 Dave Clark has held on tightly to anything involving him. This may even include appearances on other people's TV shows, such as Ed Sullivan's. If he ever allows his Sullivan show performances to be put on RU-vid, I would love it if they came in quick succession.
