Connie Hawkins is my favorite player of all-time- when I was in HS I drove the coach crazy doing that one hand stuff. Considering it was Maine circa 1970 and I was a white boy........

@@charleslu7044 connie Hawkins best years were not in the nba, unstoppable around the basket becauce he could hold the basket with one hand, not even a young kareem Abdul-Jabbar could stop him, i like the nba did not want him to play, nba paid connie Hawkins 💰 money for kicking him out

at 1:53 Connie gets called for an offensive foul. According to his book entitled Foul, the refs were targeting him on purpose on numerous occasions in numerous games because he chose to take the NBA to court, this was there way of getting revenge,smh.

Man, NBA officials were showin' NO MERCY to the Hawk whenever he got fouled hard (like at 3:23) or gets rung up on one of those classic BS calls like at the 0:17 mark during that particular time period. No wonder the ABA was put in existence back then, might need that league to make a real comeback soon if the NBA keeps going back in time to its less glamorous years... >:-(

Hawkins got into early foul trouble and so didn't play many first-half minutes and held back on being aggressive. Didn't score his first field goal until there was 8 minutes to go in the third quarter but picked up his pace and scored his final 12 of 20 total points in the 4th quarter.

At 0:17 they call another bologna foul against The Hawk,smh. The NBA was targeting players and cheating them back then and its continued all the way up until today.

The Hawk is one of my fave players all-time to watch. Even though he was past his prime here you never knew when he would do something that you'd never seen before. Too often you hear that a player can do it all but in Connie's case, that was true. Thanks, great video.

+Wei Qi i think he was quite young here - around 28 or so.
@weiqi8956
@weiqi8956 8 лет назад
+yourworstfive You're right about his age but he was past his prime. Connie entered the NBA at the age of 27 and coming off a knee injury. The Hawk still had the skills such as great passing, shooting, court vision, ball handling, etc... but he never reclaimed his explosiveness and leaping ability that he had used so effectively pre-injury. Too bad players back then didn't have the availability of the more advanced knee procedures of today. Elgin Baylor was another player that was never as explosive post knee surgery.

yourworstfive The amazing thing about Connie was that he was so effective in the NBA despite his injury which was a testament to his high level of all-around skill as a basketball player.

Y did he always palm the ball for no reason?
@WiltChamberlainArchive
@WiltChamberlainArchive 8 лет назад
+Frank DaTank Just a product of his ability. It was natural, he had among the biggest hands of any player in history. Other players don't palm it as often because either they can't, or if they do they risk it getting poked out of their hands. his wrapped around the ball so much he never worried about it and could use it to keep space between the ball and the defender.
@daveconleyportfolio5192
@daveconleyportfolio5192 8 лет назад
+Frank DaTank He got criticized for it a lot by players such as Elvin Hayes, who said he played like he was still with the Globetrotters. Hawkins said swinging the ball one handed made it hard for defenders to know if he was passing or putting the ball on the floor.
@clu4u

@3:40, the Hawk catches a rebound with one hand! Biggest hands than anyone not named Wilt, who also would pass the ball after waving it around like a grapefruit. Greater passing angles with one handed passes.

What was the foul at 1:55?
@WiltChamberlainArchive
@WiltChamberlainArchive 8 лет назад
+mrslick58 They called him for pushing with his left arm. Which he did do. They wouldn't call that in today's game because in today's game offensive players are given all the freedom to run players over, stiff arm them, elbow them etc. Meanwhile defensive players today CAN'T TOUCH you. Back then, the opposite was true. As an offensive player you had to maneuver around your defender or shoot over them while your defender was allowed to hand check you, guide you, etc. If you tried to initiate contact you were given the foul as an offensive player.
@mrslick58

+Wilt Chamberlain Archive it's amazing players like wilt and Elgin still score so many points. Kobe is the only player I can think of that took full of advantage of the new rules.
