@@AxisChurchDevotee yeah I just find it strange that the hardest gaunlet is the only one that gives you zero reward. I get that it exists as a challenge but you really don't need a boss gaunlet to do it. Just do every boss fight consecutively in the memories

Sakura dance is also buffed by the flame vent fire buff and divine confetti. They really went all out with that move.

Thanks to From Software, for putting the effort into a Free Update! Please consider returning to Sekiro, encourage your friends to pick it up, and maybe they'll consider free updates for their other games, in the future. I think it's a really good way to lengthen the life-cycles of these titles, for relatively little development time.

I'd wager fighting lady butterfly as your first boss is actually really helpful to you as a player. I learned how to perfect parry thanks to her.

I did the exact same thing right after I had killed the first ogre on my first playthrough. Didn't help being a completionist wanting to loot everything and kill every mob I encounter with no mikiri counter at the time, got my ass handed to me by the spear-bearers, lone shadow longswordsman and of course Lady Butterfly having no vitality or attack power upgrades learning the fight from scratch. Definitely the best way to start the game

When fighting inner genichiro, it is actually better to block his jump attack as he always does a thrust attack afterwards that you can mikiri counter. Regular genichiro will mix in sweep attacks after his second phase but inner genichiro always thrusts

Phase 1 thrust, phase 2 sweep or thrust, 3rd phase sweep, thrust or normal attack which transitions into a thrust if you parry it.

He'll also do a guaranteed arrow shot if you heal from a distance, and you can hear the bowstring clearly. It times out that you can heal successfully and then almost immediately dodge to the side. Similarly, in the Way of Tomoe fight, healing from a distance will guarantee a diving thrust attack, so you can heal and then immediately Mikiri counter for a bonus posture hit on him whenever you heal.

Depending on the order you get the severance ingredients, you may have to fight the guardian ape and his partner just to progress through the main story.

Another thing about Sakura dance: So after some testing I'm pretty confident that the kind of falling deathblow you do depends on how high you where when you started falling. A low fall does the backhug falling deathblow, a medium height fall does lady butterfly's neckchoke-flip deathblow, and anything higher does the slam to the ground and roll deathblow. Sakura dance, when used, carries you just high enough to do the neck-choke flip deathblow on most enemies, which imo is the coolest deathblow ever, and pretty hard to do because it requires a rather specific height to pull off. That said, really disappointed Inner Isshin couldn't reverse reverse lightning since that again, made his phase 3 easier than phase 2.

Afaik the plunge deathblows are different for each enemy. The one that knocks down enemies and stabs them is for light people The backhug is for heavier people like generals or some other main bosses like isshin and genichiro Honorable mention: Because of the fact that minister shinobis are long and strudy sekiro actually has to rip open their back to kill them with falling blow. Each enemy type has different

I personally hoped that Ishiin would take lightning reversal to another level. Basically, genichiro teaches you that double reversal is a thing, but gives you the tool to counter it easily. Now I thought that Glock9 madafacka Ishiin would say nope, not doing this shit, and reversed your reversed reversed reversal, making the weapon art useless xD You would have to commit to this reversed reversed reversed reversed reversal-inception and it would be dope as hell

@@Champion-1209 but Isshin is implied to be a much more talented warrior than Genichiro. Hell he somehow just knew how to reverse lightning when he came back from the grave, and there's no lore to suggest that he can only do it because he came out of Genichiro's body, and even if such lore did exist it wouldn't make much sense

Yeah the first time Genichiro re-reversed my lightning attack my first reaction was "What the absolute fuck just happened there?" But by the time I got to Inner isshin and realized his lightning reversal is still basic I was pretty disappointed.

I personally like to keep shuriken equipped for the "Great shinobi owl" fight. I rarely use them if he tries to recuperate his posture which is something other than just not using the tools at your disposal. the shuriken knock him out of the animation and he then proceeds to chase me down.

Yeah, I'm playing through them after having ever achievement in NG+...4 I think? With the demon bell and charm active (how I played every game after the first). Holding block definitely is a bad idea in my case. I got through the first gauntlet, but the second is going to take a while, and the third even longer, and the last one? Yeah, that will take a long time to be ready to do. Especially without basically exploiting the bosses or glitching things out to make it easy, as many players prefer to do.

Here's a little tip that really helped me when I was playing. Memorizing the deflection sounds really helps with landing them perfectly. There's a pattern and if you pair it with looking at the animation it makes it way easier to time your block. Some fights I didn't even realize but I was making the perfect deflect with my mouth because It was something I picked up without even knowing. Idk if its as useful for others as it is for me but it doesn't hurt to try :)

Definitely agree! I remember encountering the giraffe centipede for the first time and killing him first try, just because his attacks were so rhythmical. Listening to the sounds definitely helped me memorising the rhythms of attacks from bosses and killing Genichiro right after having perfectly deflected that long sword attack of his is satisfying as hell^^

Tip to inner owl: An easy way to get a charge attack on him is when he does his shoulder, hit, firecracker. After you deflect the second hit just charge up and attack and you will dodge straight through the fire crackers and hit him

I just use Night jar reversal against owl. You can pursue him after most of his attacks with it and maintain constant peessure. As soon as he jumps back you can leap towards him. It's really fucking cool whe he does the three step fire cracker slash because you deflect the first two, it pushes you back with a deflect, dodge backwards once and then night jar through the lingering smoke and it looks god damn dope

@@danielchristensen3657 Standard owl is pretty good with night jar is it lets you close the gap for zero Spirit cost. Literally every time he jumps back, you can take a step forward then nightjar at him to continue attacking. Literally just using Night jar to chase him makes fighting him in first phase really easy. With his fire cracker slash, you can do a really cool looking, and very simple, combo. Basically when you see him spray out the black powder, wait for him to start slashing it, and then dodge backwards. Dunno if you know this or not, but Dodging doesn't work by evading the attacks hit box, it works by using invincibility frames to just pass through the attack So you can literally dodge clean through a slash. (If you know that, I hope I'm not offending you by stating the obvious but alotta players don't know how dodge works. So regardless Even of you're in the fire crackers range, if you dodge at the right time, you wont take damage. So he tosses out the black powder, you dodge backwards as he ignites it with his slash and then you immediately Nightjar towards him, which is like dodging an explosion and then jumping straight through the smoke to slash him, it looks and feels dope as hell and lets you continue the fight quickly to maintain pressure. Also if you haven't figured it out yet, When he does that long dashing cut, where he throws the anti healing smoke bomb at the end, you can stop the smoke bomb entirely. Basically you just deflect the cut, and immediately press attack. He'll start the throwing animation but if you cut him first, it'll cancel. The other dash cut I block the single shuriken and dodge the cut to deal health damage to his flank. Dunno if you do loads of posture damage if you block it but i prefer dodging that one

I feel as though Inner Isshi should have been a combination of Sword Saint and Fire Isshins movesets, with a couple more Mortal Blade moves. I wouldn't care if the fight was four or five phases, I would love seeing how many crazy combos Isshin could perform by stringing attacks from both versions together.(something like his short range fire sweep leading into his sword beams and ending off with Inner Isshins new phase 2 attack. Also, if I made it, the Mortal Blade moves would probably go through resurrections, so if you die to them, that's it, no resurrection nodes

For the new inner isshin attack the special is a sweep so you can jump to avoid, however he will follow it up with an upward swipe so you have to block mid air then he does one of two things a mid-air thrust where you can mikiri counter or an air cutter thing with the white wave where you can dodge to the side. Hope this helps anyone

I didn't deflect a single time midair the whole fight. Just start running to the left and he will miss both the sweet and the lance. Less chance of getting whacked because you miss timed the block button.

Here's a tip for Inner Isshin, the new danger attack is a sweep so jump over it, and the next attack you can midair deflect and he will either do a thrust or big slash attack that you dodge to the right with. Hope this helps

Another tip: the midair deflection leaves you in a pretty long recovery animation and you only have like 2 frames to dodge or get the mikiri off once you come out of it, so make sure you mash the hell out of the dodge button after you get the deflect. Using the umbrella might negate this but i haven't tried it personally.

Another 2 tips: after the new mortal draw move get out of the way of the first and then back in for the second. While ur in use one mind to destroy his health. U can do the same thing for his ichimonjii double just dodge and one mind. This helps soo much as his natural posture regen is insane and u can do the full one mind

There is some extra stuff you missed, the memory part of the item that increases your attack power (Before it becomes remnant) has some extra lore, the best one imo is inner owl's. It says this inner version within sekiro's memory is far greater then the real owl could ever hope to become. Something similar to that

But he does the same for the other 2. It's an idealized version combat wise he creates to train, nothing more nothing less.

These gauntlets remind me of Hollow Knight: Godmaster. In Godmaster there are 4 gauntlets where you fight 9 main bosses then in the end you'll face a new boss and then there is that final gauntlet where you fight a harder version of all 50+ bosses along side the new ones, but then in the end you fight a boosted version of the final boss and it's insane. Absolute Radience I'll eventually beat you.

I love Hollow Knight, but Godmaster just took it too far imo. The difficulty of those gauntlets is just cruel for average players. Even From Soft had the kindness to give you a full heal between every boss in the gauntlet

@@uryenatienza4093 Yeah, the first 3 are reasonable, and I know I beat the first two. Not sure if I beat the Sage one. I thought Nightmare Grimm showed up in the fourth, but he's actually only in the fifth. Looking at it now, only the last one is truly evil, which I think is too much. From Soft did it the right way: the insanely hard boss rush is completely optional with no reward besides pride. There isn't even a new boss form, so only do it if you're into that. Hollow Knight locked both a new boss, extra lore, and the alternate ending behind the insane rush. It's the only time the game leans too far into the classic ultra hard difficulty of NES games and the like. It sucked ending Hollow Knight on such a sour note

@@NicholasKratzer for a free update its an amazing addition. You dont have to finish godmaster but the fact that the devs cared to actually put in a boss gauntlet or just the ability to refight cool bosses without resorting to any janky mods is awesome. I'm hoping boss heavy games like fromsoft games do take note and start doing this for all their upcoming games cause 100% of the time people want to redo those crazy bosses and have to wait till someone mods it for them.

I’m not even joking when I say that the fifth pantheon added another 30 hours to my overall playtime of the game. Having to beat every single boss in the game in a row without any checkpoints and very few heals is downright cruel, especially when the first 20 or so bosses are an absolute cakewalk and just add to the length of the pantheon

I never really try to cheese enemys like owl or the butterfly because they were always this "skill door" like gundyr in ds3 for me it was the games way of saying if you can beat him you will be able to handle the next part of the game. (and it just feels extremely good in sekiro to kill them by parrying their atacks perfectly)

@@einfangirl2351 I remember like 1,5 years ago I used to play a little ds3 every day in the morning and try to beat midir. On like the 2nd try in the 3rd/4th day I just needed 1 more hit to his head and when I pressed r1 my half broken controller didn't respond. What happened after? Of course midir hit me while I was trying to press r1 and I died... I stopped playing ds3 after that.

Do you think this is From apologizing for not giving us DLC where we get to return the dragons heritage home (Sakura blossoms being associated with the divine dragon of course)? thats certainly what it sounded like to me.

I think that Tomoe and Takeru failed to return to the divine realm and this dance was meant to either console Takeru or to be a mourning ritual done on Takeru's grave at the old Everblossom (where genichiro then observed it). Just my first thoughts though.

Nice attention to detail. For real though I'm surprised this game never got any REAL DLC. The boss rushes are cool but it didn't add much outside of 3 modified boss fights and 3 skins. I at least hope FS doesn't drop Sekiro or at least the Sekiro model entirely because I know we probably won't get a sequel but the thought of no more ninja sword play makes me sad. Easily the best combat in a souls game so far, so much so that playing DS and bloodborne isn't as fun to me as it used to be. Strange how the game with the least amount of customization by far is one of the most addicting

When Genichiro does that spin attack you can dodge towards him just before the third one to get a clean hit. It's similiar to that Ishin's spear phase strat.

@@Brex10 I think that sekiro is one of the easiest games from soft has made because its really fair. The bosses give you time between attacks and you don't die when you mess up once. Edit: the reason I think that the monkeys and demon are hard is because even if you practice a lot you still cant consistently beat them. If you practice against sword Saint enough you can consistently first try him, but demon of hatred will just bullshit you to death.

@@WalkingTalkingBean I have played all Dark Souls games and Bloodborne. Dlc's included. But Sekiro is the only game I can't beat from Fromsoft. Because it's to damn hard, and no it's not because I cant summon help, I soloed almost everything in the other games, the only things I haven't been able to beat solo are Aldrich and Darkeater Midir. Now dont get me wrong I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm not one of those journalists calling for an easy mode, I get that Fromsoft games are meant to test your metal, And if anyone asks I still say Sekiro is a great game, but if they ask if they should play it, I usually say yes with the caveat that I think it's the hardest Fromsoft game I have played yet.

NO You don't necessarily need to damge her at all because you can do : hit - hit - parry - hit or parry - then hit - then parry (side note : if she got out of this loop throw a shurikin to throw off balance and continue the loop) until her posture is full and boom this can be done for both phases if you do this she will be a joke {this basically what I do when I fight her , her and Emma} [Important thing to say is that this can be done if you did it as fast as you can and not give enemies time to lowe their posture like genichro but even then there's some bosses like owl how can lower their posture as fast as your eyes can see]

17:00 I've always referred to that Genichiro battle flow as the "sword dance." You get locked into a dance, or a pattern with them and it chips away at their posture. I love it. You can sword dance with Lady Butterfly and keep it locked in for long durations.

When Isshin sheathes his sword, he actually has two attacks he can make it into depending on what you are up to. If you stay in about the same place in front of him when he sheathes the sword, you're gonna get an Ashina Cross for big posture damage. If you're moving around, he does the single slash into a sweep. It's good to know how to bait out both depending on your positioning when he first sheathes his sword.

Haven't finished the entire video, but to answer your question of how to deflect the attack at 40:00 , you need to jump, and while on air, hold block, then when you land isshin can either do a thrust that you can mikiri counter or an attack that you can parry. Also, for anyone struggling with these bosses, you can use the dragon's blood dropplets to revive more than one time per phase, or a Jizo statue to get an extra revive. The best thing is that after finishing the gauntlets you get the consumables back. That's how I managed to finish the 4 trials on my first try, I had a lot of these items that I never used. And the mist raven feather is essentially a free get out of jail card, if you find yourself having a hard time dodging any particular boss attack, just use the feather. Also, I did the gauntlets on ng+7 and as far as I can tell, the damage does not scale, however, negative effects of not having Kuro's charm or having the Bell Demon active, do apply.

For Isshin’s new moves in phase 2 you jump over them, block mid air and if he does the spear thrust you counter it ,obviously, and if it’s the big slash you dodge the right of it and you can get two hits in if done well, hope this helps.

I love how they have reflection of strength in this game. It is such a nice touch and important feature that you can practice as many times as you’d like. I’d like to have a DLC or Sekiro 2 but reflections and gauntlet is better than nothing

The mist raven when used will catch the lightning it flies you into the air, just don't hold forward as you'll just go forward and been on the ground with shock which will stun you

New Attack on Inner Isshin: Its a sweep + mid air attack from his part and finish it off with a trust attack. So you need to jump - deflect mid air - and be ready to mikiri counter his spear. Enjoy.

A version of the player from the outcome of an alternate timeline (The player's Shura ending) where they are facing the result of their actions. It feels like an interesting concept.

While a perfect parry is quite nice for his sakura dance, i personally dodge forward at the third instance. This way he doesnt hit you and you have a perfect opportunity to hit him hard with mortal blade

Nice tips. I have a few more to make the fights even easier - With Genishiro, don't dodge through his jump attack, parry it. If you deflect it, he always follows with a thrust on phase one (so you can mikiri him), on phase two he follows up with either thrust or a sweep (so jump), and on phase three it's either thrust sweeo or normal attack followed by thrust. You can clearly see the reflection of his blade in the smoke that telegraphs what move he'll use. - Again with Genishiro, but only for phase three or Way of Tomoe : during his flurry attack, you can dodge it or parry most of it, whatever you want, but deflect the last attack, he will always follow with a thrust - For Shinobi Owl : during phase two when he tries to regain posture after throwing poison : throw a shuriken at him to interrupt - For both monks : you can actually hit her three times if you use the best firecrackers (but because there's a delay you might need some practice). Also, Ashes have the same effect (only two attacks after though) - Inner Ishin : firecracker his ass to interrupt his opening attack. He has two new attacks, don't know how to properly counter them so yeah, run at first, but look for the last attack of the combo, sometimes it's a thrust with the spear you can mikiri.

Good tips. I always parry Geni's jump attack. For Isshin's charged attacks, I interrupt it with charged praying strike, skill is so underrated. It can interrupt most (if not all, I'm still not sure) uninterruptible attacks like grab attacks, Geni's mortal blade, Ishin's white attacks, Isshin and Emma ashina cross, etc.

PSA: Sakura Dance Lightning Reversals don't damage you in return so its currently the best way to reflect lightning.

This is super old, I know. But you can damage-less deflect lightning by holding down the deflect button right before the lighting hits you mid-jump, then use R1 to throw it back as usual.

Just beat the Divine Heir gauntlet and your strat for fighting Inner Genichiro was on point. Being hyper aggressive and using firecrackers whenever he starts to go "wild" off the routine loop melts his first 2 phases. 3rd phase is a bit more unpredictable, but still not a major issue. Now, let me see if I can do the other gauntlets.

For Isshin phase 2 I actually found that being at a middle distance helped, especially with the new move where you want to run away from it. He’ll then either swipe down which can be parried or dodged or you can mikiri counter his thrust.

A simple jump away whenever he does the new attack (and he telegraphs it very clearly) works fine, no need to hold middle distance (he only does the attack if you already are at middle distance anyway)

All I want is to say thank you for your tips on guardian ape second phase because I just hated the fight but this with the way I had my thing set he died both phases in 1 minute so this was a huge help for me
