A group of 4 of us did this several years ago. We left at 6AM, went west for 543 miles, turned around and came back. Sounds simple enough. Rain, wind, even snow, got back the next morning around 3:30. Ran out of gas..almost...more than once...I had a brand new helmet...and of course it got itchy as all get out 25 minutes in...sigh...but, we made it. We had 'planned' on doing it once a year, possibly getting some kind of charity thing going...but the next year...not a single one of us was the least bit interested. It was tough, and our route was super easy, and it was still tough.

Congrats on your SS1K. And on the helpful video to the next gen of 1k riders. My Ultra tossed a decompression valve the week before my planned SS 1000 and BB 1500. (All that planning shot in a instant!) Much to my surprise my buddy (who broke his foot, thus couldn't make the ride) loaned me his SGS. Now that's a friend! I'm on his SGS, My wife on her bone stock Sporty and my Son on his VTX1800 all pulled off the entire 1500 mile ride. Grueling is an understatement! I planned each stop at 20 min. but we went in knowing for every minute we shave off stops adds time on the next! Most stops less than 15 min. Hit the hotel for 4 hours at the 1100 mile mark. So the next 400 would be somewhat easier. Although this section was on 2 lane byways. Still procrastinating sending in my package though. We hit windstorms, rain and hail along with some 100+ temps. Ya gotta be ready for anything nature can and will throw at ya! The worst we encountered was the crappy condition of I-40 in Arizona! My right saddlebag departed and my wife's Sporty broke the belt guard and vibration broke her low beam headlamp. Note to self "Carry Bulbs!" And toss those stupid HD saddlebag cam locks... Ric-Rac is the ticket!

Holy crap man! That sounds terrible. I've lucked out so far on my bun burner. Nothing but great weather so far. Finally settled in at the state park. Waking up at 3:30am to finish off the last 600 miles!
@just_another_Joe
@just_another_Joe Год назад
Congratulations Joe! I can sympathize with your weather dilemmas from other rides, but not from my own Iron Butt ride. My wife and I just completed our first Saddle Sore 1000 and Bun Burner 1500/36 about 8 hours ago (two-up), and except for a brief (but intense) rain storm in Nebraska (during which we barely got our rain gear on in the nick of time), the weather had little bearing on our trip. Your advice about bringing as much of what you need to eat/drink was gold! We brought with us most of what we ate/drank (including lots of water), and that saved us tons of time from not having to go into stores on most stops. I think our stop-durations were mostly impacted by that one thing alone, keeping them to about 15 minutes or less. And like you said, getting an early start was important. Our trip-clock began at 0332, so we were in familiar territory for the initial couple of hours when it was dark. We’re looking forward to getting what’s in the package you presented here (though, the Full Monty 😄). I gotta get cracking on putting that all together tomorrow to send in.

Don't plan a trip that involves riding above the Mason Dixon line in March You went South, so night is best, or cloudy day, riding into the sun all day sucks If your purpose is point A to point B, go interstate at night, makes you easier to see, less traffic, and they travel in packs Of course now is not the time to ride or drive thru the night.......'19 you'd find gas nearly every exit, now not so many open 24hrs.......having 1 gal gas can be handy
