Ok, Before anyone points this out... I KNOW THERE WERE PEOPLE ON THE BEACH... and you can see them in some shots... I can't just ask people to get off the entire beach can I? Nor can clear the whole beach of foot prints. So, NO COMPLAINING PLEASE! It was freezing cold, blowing a gale and was difficult to film.
Ok, onto the story. Once a young horse has obtained/discovered its power or energy, they must undergo an assessment that will establish their role in the herd for the first few years. Think of it like in reality... If you pass your exams well then you'll get a good job. Pass with a low score or even fail, and you'll find it quite tough to get further.
Mars feels nervous for once in his life, as he finally realises that he's screwed up his opportunity to prove himself. Of course leaders Odin and Kronos will give exceptions here and there as these horses are young, and cannot be expected to be able to control their abilities fully... However, you can usually tell the youngsters who've put effort into actually practicing before hand. Mars sadly isn't one of them. He knows his fate. But he'll have his chance again in future.
Meanwhile, we also learn that Eros is stubborn and has anger issues. Romulus is quite the peace maker. Nyx has interesting powers, and Isis... well. As the others said, she usually performs so well... however she seems to have buckled under the pressure, and doesn't manage to show the extent of her metamorphic abilities... Isis is a very proud young mare. Being unable to perform destroys her, so she runs away, unable to confront her defeat.
And this leads us to Episode 9....
