Of the several CSAO operations in the Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey area, one of the most undershot is the operations around Stony Creek Yard in Chester, PA. I found myself in the area a few times while chasing CSX C788 to Stony Creek (that's for another video) and was able to document a few local jobs doing their thing in the area. I would like to capture more operations down this way in the future but in the meantime here is what I've got.
January 29, 2018
I find myself just north of the PA/DE border in Marcus Hook, PA, with intentions of shooting Conrail YPSC-02. The 02 is based out of the Sunoco Refinery at Marcus Hook, and brings empties out to Stony Creek Yard and then returns with the loads, making a short run through 4th Street in town on the way. I hung around for a few hours and was questioned by plant security while doing so, but finally was rewarded as SC-02 emerged from the Sunoco Plant and through 4th Street with CSX GP38-2 2647 pulling a lengthy cut of cars for the yard, and then returning around an hour or so later with the loads. The old L&N GP38-2 sounds good as the engineer works her to bring the loads back through 4th Street.
Later in the afternoon, we see Edgemoor, DE based NS K70 rumble down the Linwood Branch off the Northeast Corridor as they cross 10th Street in town on their way to Stony Creek. K70 is powered by an RP-E4C/GP40-2 slug set, NS 703 and 3074. They are then seen departing SC over the double diamonds at Penn Avenue as they head back out to Amtrak...
Fast forward a little over a year later to February 19, 2019, I'm in the area after chasing C788 and stumbled upon SC-02 departing Sunoco as they head towards Penn Avenue with CSX 2647 again coincidentally.
Over in Chester at Stony Creek Yard, the YPSC-01, which shifts industries along the Chester Secondary (on my list of things to do) is seen moving about the yard at dusk with one of the last GP40-2s in YN2 for power, CSX 4419..
Now on the very cold Wednesday that was March 6, 2019, I'm awaiting C788 with my friend Danny, but not before encountering YPSC-01 as it reverses towards Wanamaker Yard in Essington with one tank car from the Airport Industrial Park and CSX 2647, again.
Finally, YPSC-02 is seen yarding their empties from Sunoco at Stony Creek with CSX 4419.
Thanks for watching!
