My mom and dad married without a diamond ring just wedding bands because they don’t like gem stones. Also my mom hates dresses, she married in a gold silk blouse and a pair of wide leg trousers. @@Duck-cb8rk thank you! They are both artists and mom is also a fashion designer, so she made her own blouse and wore a pair of flats. If I remember correctly, the white dress wasn’t really a thing until the Victorian era, and even then mostly for rich/ noble born people since white was an expensive fabric to make and keep white. I don’t think the whole dress and diamond rings started to be a thing for somewhat ordinary people until the 1920s and 1930s when catalogs started portraying them as the ONLY way to get married. The modern symbology of a wedding is only around 100 years old and comes solely from a marketing gimmick

in Italy white dresses for marriage are quite a "modern" thing, common people started to wear fancy white dresses only after WWII, before that time only rich people could afford such a dress so common people used to wear dresses that could have been adapted and reused and, most of the times, dresses weren't white but brown or black . I even have a photo of my great grandmother wearing a brown dress at her wedding in 1930

Be it colour nor who they marry. If she didn't like that her daughter was marrying another woman, I doubt she'd be there at all to support her. 🤷🏼 Not everyone who has different opinions is instantly homophobic. That's like someone mentioning that they prefer dogs over cats and another person starts freaking out at that opinion, instantly taking it as that person kills cats because of how much she "hates them". Conrad Dickinson You are sooo right! Because moms shouldn’t give their opinions even though that’s whose opinion matters the most her daughter. Moms have a vision too and if you seriously don’t respect your moms opinion nor do you want your mom to be honest and give it. Then you must not have a good relationship with your mom. Or you must not have kids. Although as moms we want to be sweet and love everything are kids do. We need to tell the truth and give are opinions no matter what.
@faitha.fraser459
@faitha.fraser459 5 лет назад
@@Whydtheyaddusernames There is such a big difference between forcing your beliefs on someone, and simply giving someone a motherly and helpful opinion. This woman was hell bent on getting her way and her way only. That doesnt sound like an opinion, that sounds like forcing something. You can already tell she wasn't happy with the marriage to begin with so the dress is one way to let out all of her "opinions". This entire attitude she seems to have towards this wedding actually isnt about the dress, its about the marriage. So if its the marriage she has a problem with, then mother or not her opinion is completely irrelevant. If someone thinks they have the right to impose on someone elses relationship no matter who they are and what their intentions were, thats officially crossing the line.

That is not what the saying 'baptism by fire' means. At all. And I think she was very awkwardly explaining a situation she was new to and not totally comfortable with, yet being immersed in. Which IS the definition of trial by fire. She obviously loves her daughter and is obviously trying to assimilate.

The mom is definitely trying. She didn’t grow up in an accepting era. We can’t judge her because we don’t know what our views would’ve been even a decade before we were born. She’s trying and is becoming more open minded. She’s able to grow as a person and that’s what matters

Yes! I think the mom is wonderful. You cant expect someone to immediately change their lifelong cultural views. She is very obviously trying to adjust & that is something that we all take time to do when things are different from our conventional lifestyle. The bride is completely untraditional and that's probably hard to swallow for such a traditional parent. That being said the mom is understanding that it's not about her and it's about her daughters happiness. It may take a bit of time but she will come around full circle one day.

@Magnar Creed, I’m really sort of amazed by how people see this woman. She’s not hateful. She’s not disowning anyone. She’s not unaccepting of the fiancé. Ultimately she wants her daughter to be happy. Was she thrown for a loop when her daughter came out? Maybe. Should she be free to admit that? I think so. I’m sorry but all these very progressive or so open minded commenters seem very lacking in empathy and quite frankly seem incredibly close minded in regards to other people’s experiences.
