you could just say that gravity is conservative because the change in kinetical energy(speed) of the object will be the same at the end no matter where we throw it if the height is the same while with friction, the more time an object spends on the road the work will be higher. like you will step on more rocks that can interrupt your motion and slow you down if you dont go in the straight line
@ColinWatters
@ColinWatters Год назад
I like to consider a mountain climber.. if he leaves his hotel, climbs a mountain and then return to his hotel, the work he does against gravity is zero because his starting and ending height is the same. Pe = mgh - mgh = 0. His route up the mountain (hard or difficult) doesn't figure anywhere in the maths.

I was told today that a conservative force is always a radial force. That doesn't seem to be right, but I'm wondering if there is a way to classify if more than just that it's non-conservative if it pushes or pulls. Does anyone know of another way to classify conservative and non-conservative forces?

Isn’t the work done by the net force equals to the change of the mechanical energy, or equals to the change of kinetic energy and the weight potential energy?
@rishikadhikari6326
@rishikadhikari6326 2 года назад
I don't think we calculate the work done by net force. Work done by different forces are calculated. If they are added together they equal net work. And no matter what, net work always equals change in kinetic energy of the object. So basically, Net work = sum of work done by different forces acting on the object. But understand that Work by each force can be calculated as F*d*cos(theta) so not all forces acting on an object will do work on that object. Also, remember that when calculating work done by conservative force such as gravity, just use the height not the actual displacement because work done by conservative force is independent of the path covered. I hope this helps.

I found the answer for the first question in a different way at pt A PE=mgh and KE=0 there fore (PE+KE)at pt A=(PE+KE)at pt B mg(100m)+o=mg(30m)+1/2mv^2 mg100m-mg30m=1/2mv^2 mg(100m-30m)=1/2mv^2 divide both sides by m g(70m)=1/2v^2 rearrange the equation square root (2g(70m))=v square root (1372)=v v=37.04 for all of u physics nerds watching this video

I'm just confused as to why the work done by the friction is greater in path 2 than in path 1. The work done depends on the displacement no? So even if path 2 has a longer distance it still has the same displacement from point A to B in both paths respectively. Wouldn't this cause the work done to be equal in both paths?

There is only one thing that bothers me, why change in potential energy is the negetive of work done by conservative force, and which force are we talking about here I mean the one that is doing the work or the one that is opposing it, like if I lift an object to a height h the work done by me should be positive but the work done by gravity is it the negetive of potential energy gained by object😢😢😢😢

@GodGurdjieff

Work done is zero doesn't mean that you didn't work, It may mean that what you did actually increased it's potential or kinetic energy in such a way that in order to attain equilibrium, that body again reversed the work or appended it's energy somehow.

Can anyone please tell me how the workdone by friction is _300?
@jedemmaludjecu2229
@jedemmaludjecu2229 3 года назад
as you probably know the friction slows down the object. so the object would lose its energy which means that the work done on the object must be negative. kinetic energy tells the work that can be done by an object. he just wrote random numbers since he didnt calculate anything.
