"In late 2023, Joe Schutzman says he decided to move his family from Kansas to the Moscow region because of his frustration with LGBTQ+ “propaganda” in the US.
In a recent 17-minute RU-vid monologue, bespectacled and wearing a black turtleneck, Schutzman describes himself as a “traditional Catholic father of six children.”
He goes on to complain that America has “abandoned God” and is “promoting IVF babies,” suggesting that Russian religious conservatism offers a more appealing lifestyle.
“After spending so many years saying that I don't believe the mainstream media, I didn't really find out how programmed I was until I visited, thinking that Russia was this horrible depressing country,” he said. “So I had to go out and see it for myself, and it couldn't be more untrue.”"

They have to gloss over some stuff that is very important to right-wingers. Russia is very ethnocentric. This extends to laws about religion. There is NOT religious liberty in Russia! Putin strongly prefers the nationalist Russian Orthodox Church and treats all other Christian denominations as "foreign influences". Likewise, despite the iconic AK-47, there is NO right to bear arms in Russia. You need a federal permit, complete with a background check by the friendly agency formerly known as the KGB. You CANNOT criticize the government. They are more than happy to imprison or kill you depending on how loudly you do so. They can and will invoke a DRAFT to make you fight in their war(s). A high price to pay just to live in a country that hates LGBTQ+ people.

But if you look for work there, don't be surprised at how low your salary is. When *ucker was there he raved about how cheap the food in the supermarket was. Those kids will always have their US citizenship. It is quite bit of a hassle, renouncing the citizenship, and a process (and there's no reason for them to need to do it, even if they totally love it in Russia). Once those kids are 18, and independent, they can decide for themselves. And if they end up growing up with their Russian peers, going to high school there, much like their Russian peers, they will also want to get out of Russia. Unlike their Russian peers, who'll likely remain stuck there, these kids can always fly back to USA and rebuild their lives there, away from their parents' destructive influence.

I think you’re thinking of the Canadian family who moved but yes, it was nearly insta-regret. It seems like they lived a pretty decent life in Canada before moving. When they arrived in Russia, the Russian government used them for the propaganda win for about a week then did absolutely nothing to help them integrate with Russian society, get settled etc. You’d think they’d have done some prep work for themselves prior to leaving, but blind rage against lgbtq+ seems to not be closely associated with deep thinking people who prepare for a new situation with reasonable planning 😂

@mikemckenty3040 It's a dumb argument because not all fertilized eggs implant successfully in order to result in a pregnancy, so saying that is murder when it relates to IVF, but not when it occurs naturally in a woman's body is entirely hypocritical. The whole argument against IVF, that "life begins at conception," falls apart when you acknowledge the truth that conception doesn't guarantee implantation.

I would never want to live in Russia as it is not a nice country to be in. Went there once and that was enough. Some of the people were nice but others were just so rude and strange. No thanks. As far as I am concerned all conservatives can move there and stay. Let us who are caring and compassionate people stay here. They want to live like fascists, then go there.

Moscow and St. Petersburg are bubbles of modernity, wealth, and sophistication separate from the rest of Russia. Even Russians low key put down and make fun of people in those two cities. I would love for these Americans to move out of Moscow and live a year in some mid-to-large town/city in central Russia, or in Siberia or the Far East. I wonder how much they'd love it then.

Daily reminder to americans who know nothing about Russia. Moscow and St Peters are VERY different experiences to other parts of Russia even large urban cities like Yekaterinberg. A real "representative" Russian experience is not found in the highly manicured Prestige cities that even normal russians can't really "immigrate" to freely like you can move to whatever city you want in the usa

When Russia has them arrested without evidence or proof. They will be calling a US embassy with their only phone call. It’s truly tragic, that people have been so naive to reality that they are looking to move to Russia. Tucker Carlson did a fantastic job showcasing Russia as a utopian. Yet, the vast majority of Russia is still very poor and under developed. Moscow and Saint Petersburg are both financially stable cities. Yet, the Russian federation will send people to 20 years of forced labor for small infractions. The US invest a lot in trying to give individuals the opportunity to change. Sometimes that results in repeat offenders being given a slap on the wrist. It’s not that we are soft on crime, it’s just we saw that making an entire generation of kids grow up with imprisoned fathers only leads to more crime. I’m a white kid and I never had the opportunity to meet my father because he was an addicted and went to prison multiple times. I was told at his funeral that he was an awesome guy who was funny and kind but he stumbled on the path through life. I’m 4 years sober from alcohol and knowing what happened to my dad was something that made me realize I needed Jesus to help me. I’d be out partying and having a blast in a college town but I was on a slippery slope and needed a course correction. So I decided to take up AA and became a born again Christian

I don't get why conservative Christians would move to Russia. If you're upset about the gays being allowed to live openly, why not move to a conservative Christian place in the United States, like Oklahoma, Misssissippi, Alabama? Or devout Catholics, why Russia, where the dominant Christian denomination is the Russian Orthodox Church? Why not Ireland or Italy or France or other predominantly Catholic countries?

I’m an Aussie who lives in Argentina… in belgrano, Buenos Aires, to be specific. It’s a bit of a mess here, but there are more and more Russians coming here, young ones, normally with a child on the way. The law here is that if your child is born here, then it is Argentine, and the parents are eligible to be citizens too. They are escaping the draft and shi te hole that is Russia. There are adds in Russian in real estate agencies in my barrio, and I know of at least one Spanish school for Russians. Things must be grim if you emigrate here.
