Constantin Brancusi knew how to put the struggle into art. Impoverished, he walked across Europe to make his mark, and boy was it worth it. Born in Hobita, in a small Romanian village, the father of modern sculpture lives on in America, Britain, France and Romania. Dr Tessa Dunlop celebrates his life in this episode of Who Is Romania, produced by Storytailors for the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.

Splendid presentation! It is also worth noting he was one of the inspirations for British sculptor Henry Moore.

It is good to are that the world acknowledges Brâncuși, but as usual there are many detailes that do not fit.Brancusi got his infinite inspiration from Romanian folklore, and his was 100% original.

Brancusi ' s works DO NOT have any African inspiration, they're purely Romanian.I studied him in depth and I have a PhD in art history.

What's with this trend to try and take away the merits of Romanian art and design and misrepresent them??Please do not misinform the public about Brancusi. Do not make the same mistake as Tory Burch, who lied that a Romanian design was inspired by Africa when it was in fact a Romanian original design, who could be found at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Please just don't do it, your inference that Brancusi somehow appropriated African art is a misrepresentation. Also , don't do it like Dior either, who stole traditional Romanian designs and concepts and tried to pass them as original Dior. The designs were in fact stolen from Bihor, Romania. The proceeds of the theft and sold for 30.000 euros a coat. And not a penny was given back from Dior to Romania. Brancusi's work is solely inspired by traditional Romanian concepts not African. Please don't make the same mistake as famous fashion houses stealing from the Romanian people.
