In this video we are building a big barn door from scratch, part of the barn renovation effort. The barn door frame is near completion in this part. In part 2 we will wrap up the frame and place the planks onto the frame together with some metal locks and other parts

I actually enjoyed watching this woodwork build, and that was a good idea to build the frames en-situ. 🐸

A grease fitting for future lubrication on the hinges might be a good idea.

U use braceing in wrong direction. Bracing move force from hiest lose point to lower hanges, provide saging. Problem of using screws no joints are more complicated then leght or size. Are hard, then can be snapt. If wood are no kiln dry (8-12%) season moisture changes can cut screws in one point. In general U make very solid door like for barn. Maybe even to solid (hevy)

That is going to look amazing and real authentic. I noticed that the top hinge is mounted to the inside and the bottom hinge to the outside, why did they design it like that? And 2nd question, wouldn’t it make more sense for the diagonal part to use pushrod instead of pull rod in wood construction? Or is that to come in part3? I really enjoy your steady progress of rebuilding our material heritage in our landscape.
@D3Sshooter
@D3Sshooter 7 месяцев назад
Indeed, and I have no idea why they did this like this.. as for the supports, its always good to have a pull and push together at the merging point.. so it neutralises the stress

I think the worn upper pivot pin could be welded up in a series of weld applications and then ground down to specification size. But, it does seem to work well enough as is. All in all, nice work.
@D3Sshooter
@D3Sshooter 7 месяцев назад
Yes indeed, I was thinking about that, but also the pin was worn uneven in the lenght and that would be difficult , anyhow they are still very strong

@jomo350350

bracing wrong !!!! your bracing is useless it must work in compression not in extention, the weight pull on your screws .your non supported sides of yours doors go slowly saging . Isaac newton say this!
@D3Sshooter
@D3Sshooter 7 месяцев назад
Thanks, I have them installed in both directions , you might not have seen that , and the screws are just one element. There are also the anchors in metal - T's.. Tell Isaac Newton to look twice 😀
