The current Deux-Montagnes population is 17 951 (2021 Census). Once the urban development completed by 2034 the Deux-Montagnes population is expected to be at 34 000.
Why is it a downside to densify around the stations? It seems more people means more service, restaurants, events, housing for growing population, etc...
When I mention a downside is that since we have 2 zones within a very small city footprint, a lot of people pine for the good old days of single family dwellings. It also means that a lot of people may have huge buildings within feet of their homes. The upside is that our city will be able to collect more taxes and our population will increase when everything gets going.
There shouldn't be a downside if the growth of the city is managed properly. Please tell me that new schools, daycare centers and maybe even a new hospital for the city of Deux-Montagnes is the works. Growing pains.
@@Zepfancouver There are no new schools (yet) but the St-Eustache hospital just had a major expansion. Also, Two-Mountains has no land in which to develop. Mountainview school just had an addition put on and I am sure day cares will pop up as the population expands. The real population boom will probably only start when the REM actually proves itself. Some 'older' people have a negative view of condos but lots young people don't necessarily want to spend their time cutting and weeding their lawns. I would probably feel different if my neighbour built a 5 story building beside me, but there is a price to pay to being near mass transit.
