Awesome guide. Sufficiently enough information for lots of people to pull it off themselves. I'll never give up looking for a PVM, but in the meantime I paid $50 for someone to RGB mod my 27" consumer CRT and the results are incredible. Edit: way to go with BNC! No need to mess with ugly SCART in North America and their own voltages.

Thats awesome, this little set really surprised me and makes a great little rgb monitor. Did you run your rgb signal wires under the board like I did or did you just go over the board? I ask because ive noticed a tiny bit of interference a couple times on bright backgrounds but only when I had this setup in a certain room in my house. I thought about trying to shield the wires or just reroute them over the top of the board. Just curious if you noticed anything like this?
@SweetStrat57
@SweetStrat57 Год назад
@@LameGaming I used a VGA cable which I read somewhere during my research would be good for this as it is shielded. I also grounded the shielded braid from the vga cable. I didn’t notice any interference, but I’m also leaving this monitor de-cased because it’s going in a Dynamo HS-1 cabinet. So the cabling will be mostly separated from the board and tube except where it connects.

Looks like that chassis can sync to 50Hz as well as there are empty plces for more crystals, I assume 4.43 MHz (or some multiple) for PAL, 3.582 for PAL-N and 3.575 for PAL-M, that chassis was probably used worldwide, I bet it can run on 230V too. Also where you removed the jumpers and added the diodes they were actually drawn on the circuit board itself suggesting it also allows external RGB sources from factory, what puzzles me is I don't see any SCART header on the board. Perhaps that header you used was meant for a closed captioning board?
@LameGaming
@LameGaming 2 года назад
I thought the same thing, like a world blank slate chassis that dif regions could build out accordingly. Not sure what the header port was intended for but sure came in useful for the mod lol. Thanks for watching!

Great video! Have same TV but it has no front av composite jacks. Board seems the same inside so will the mod still work? How do I connect sync without the composite video?
@LameGaming
@LameGaming Год назад
Hmmm, not sure. If you hit the input button on remote does it cycle to "av1" or composite? I wonder if the composite circuitry is populated and present or not. It might not have the pipelines active in the jungle chip i just dont know. Even if you found the composite signal trace on the board it would suck to do the mod and not be able to feed sync on it

The best place to start is see if anyone has rgb muxed that model before, if not then find out what micon/jungle is in it and see if that has been rgb muxed before.... Shmups has a huge thread on rgb mux modding.... Its basically a huge database
@caseygtr
@caseygtr Год назад
@@LameGaming I'd have to dig it out when I get home to see the model of it. If there isn't much documentation on it I might be able to find the chip pin out on the micon and trace it's resistors to the jungle. My main issue would be the resistors I need to add. I would honestly just hot wire the blanking to 5v, I don't really see the point in being able to switch it off.
@LameGaming

@@caseygtr Yeah, if your always going to run rgb then the switch isnt needed. I have a 36" jvc I modded and thought about putting it in a cab with a mistercade but dont really have the room for another cab at the moment lol

I have a very similar model thats also RGB modded, but now it doesnt turn on, doesn't seem like a blow capacitor but can't tell unless i go pulling them out of circuit. any ideas on where to get replacement parts for this model? also the anode cap is a bit weird does the wire need to be soldered to the clips when i took it off it just came out separate.
@LameGaming
@LameGaming Год назад
For parts all you can do is watch facebook marketplace etc. Ive never removed an anode clip from the high voltage wire, was it just pressure fit or crimped on? All I can suggest is repair that and try turning down your g2 voltage a hair after its sat unplugged for a while. I had similar issues after rgb modding my 36" jvc. Protection was kicking in untill I got rgb drive levels and g2 level sorted/dialed in. But make sure the anode clip is done right and theres no damaged or exposed wire/metal outside of the rubber cup.... Be safe and good luck!

I have a doubt. can you configure brightness, contrast and saturation after the rgb mod? . And if you can switch between RBG and composite video ?
@LameGaming
@LameGaming 2 года назад
On some sets you can and on some you cant. It depends when in the video encoder ic that the rgb signal is inserted. On my 36" JVC the rgb was injected late in the circuitry so no setting would affect the image so i had to go back and change muxing and termination resistors to get the image dialed in. I think more often than not though you can adjust settings normaly, and composite should still work as we are just pulling sync from it when rgb blanked
@TheMikeyb86
@TheMikeyb86 2 года назад
I must have missed it, but where are you pulling audio from? The front panel on the crt is RGB via BNC and sync on composite through your BNC on an adapter... But where are you pulling audio?
@LameGaming
@LameGaming 2 года назад
Its pulling sync on composite and rgb fed on blanking to jungle so audio should be able to be fed right through the front port, this set is mono only so will treat it like my pvms anyway and use an external audio solution for this set.

@LameGaming

Honestly, If you can find a schematic for your jungle chip online or in a service manual and/or see if your jungle/micon has been mux modded before (shmups rgb thread) ... Then mux modding is usually alot less work although you may need to desolder a few components on the board so its always a good idea to practice on some old electronic boards. Anyway.... Mux modding is so clean and streamlined I wouldnt personally do the old switch hack rgb mod anymore. The old method will have you running a ton of wires. Believe it or not, this video was my first time doing a crt rgb..... I just spent alot of time on shmups reading through the rgb thread untill I understood the concept. MarkOZ on that forum knows a ton if you have questions about which muxing resistor values are needed. I would just recommend taking your time and really researching that thread before jumping in.

Thanks for posting this video. I am actually being given a Phillips Magnavox TV that seems to be very similar to the one I am getting. The chassis code on the TV I am getting is: 25F8007583. I loosed at the board in the manual and it looks like it may be the same board as in your TV. The only differences being the one I am getting is 27 inch and stereo. I don't think that would cause any issues performing the mode the same way you did. If this recording includes all steps in the process it should make it easy for me to RGB mod mine if I go that route. Where did you find that schematic that you flashed up a few times? Are there any resources you used that reference these TVs? Anything I should know going in that may have been left out? Any input would be appreciated, however, what you have already provided here will be invaluable.
@LameGaming
@LameGaming 8 месяцев назад
Thanks, all the info you need can be found in the rgb mod thread on shmups forum. Its a thread thats 100s of pages long though but the info is there on how to determine the values needed for your muxing and termination resistors, if the jungle/micon can have rgb injected then that resource will help you determine the component values. MarkOZlad on that forum is of great help as well. If you do ask for help on there just please have your schematics for your micon/jungle and have done your homework a bit first. They will definitely help there but they like to see people who ask for help to have the general idea about the mod understood and done some leg work on their own. Good luck with the mod, if its the same chassis its possible you could just follow this vid and if things didnt mux correctly then youd just need to change some resistor values as long as the chassis video circuit is the same.

Sure, shmups has a giant crt rgb thread. Spend a little time reading through it and understand the basics, and the difference between the old switch hack mod and the much better signal muxing type mod..... Try to dig up your service manual and/or schematic for your jungle and micom chips..... Then you can post on the thread and ask for a little guidance, make sure to attach schematic of your micom,jungle when asking. Chances are if its a fairly common set youll find the info you need somewhere in the thread but the thread is huge so can be hard to find the info you need.
